Atlanta GA -- Officials at the Centers for Disease Control have issued a public health warning concerning the recent outbreak of swine-flu on cable, and even network news programs. Pundits and hosts from all three of the major networks, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX have reported symptoms of this latest outbreak of swine-flu, or pig-man disease. "The public should be aware of the symptoms and report any possible infections," said a doctor with the CDC involved in pandemic research, "though Anglo-Saxon males over the age of fifty are particularly at risk, any person displaying increased jowl-size, chubbiness, baldness, a pasty or pinkish complexion, and displaying abnormally high levels of smug bullshit should be considered a potential carrier of PM, or Pig Man's."

Officials at the CDC have urged the public to be aware of the potential risks involved in exposure to fever and nausea inducing sophistry, but not to panic. "No one in America has yet died of the cable television strain of swine-flu," said Dr. Margaret Cross with the Dept. of Health and Human Services, "thankfully over the years most Americans have dealt with some level of exposure to Pig Man's, and have developed some level of immunity to the claims of bloated, porcine men who appear on television." However, researchers at the World Health Organization are concerned that this latest strain may be even more virulent than previous outbreaks, citing abnormally high levels of douchebaggery, blatant hypocrisy, racist demagoguery and amoral equivocation.

PM bears many similarities to other degenerative neurological disorders such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob's disease, such as rapid and progressive dementia coupled with speech impairment that often results in carriers affecting a whiny, nasal, and high-pitch squeal, and an increased propensity to spout the latest pseudo-populist outrage.
The WHO fear these men and women are not just carrying the common 'douche-virus', but may be hosts for a mutated version which has elevated what would normally be a standard case of inflated self-image coupled with brutal lack of self-awareness to a possibly deadly hybrid of both the human douche and pig viruses, making them even more appalling and physically painful to look at.
"Cable and network news is a fertile breeding ground for this strain of the swine-flu," said Dr. Marvin Joseph an expert on Pandemics at Stanford Medical School. "Sadly, many TV producers do not take any of the common sense precautions that could stop an outbreak like this such as washing their hands with soap and water or not booking spokespeople from the National Organization for Marriage," continued Dr. Joseph, who claimed that the issues of torture and gay marriage are particularly strong vectors for Pig Man's, as they elicit a high level of inhuman disregard for the lives of others, moral posturing, and swine or stock-animal like behavior from the media elite, whose close contact with pig/human hybrids, and incestuous self-congratulation help to spread the disease.

The CDC has told citizens that precautions such as covering one's mouth when they cough, reading a book, or perhaps getting or even buying a fucking clue can help prevent and contain infection.

Utterly hilarious!
Thanks, I needed a few laughs.
LoL
thank you doc! I am sending this to all my rush listening/fox watching friends.
ROFL "researchers at the World Health Organization are concerned that this latest strain may be even more virulent than previous outbreaks, citing abnormally high levels of douchebaggery, blatant hypocrisy, racist demagoguery and amoral equivocation."
What we can expect from borderline cognitive functioning conservative pig-men.
This swine flu virus" combines genetic material from humans, birds and pigs in a way scientists have never seen before..." That's evolutionary. It's against the Republican religion to deal with scientific facts. Plus, why should we spend so much money when prayer cloths are cheaper? They know a minster right across the river in Ohio, who'll crank out all the country needs.
See the GOP is not just big business greed, it's 9/10ths ignorance, superstition and idiocy.
The last 9 months have been like the perfect storm. First the volcano eruption and now this. Let's hope someone in the minority political party apologizes to all of our Hispanic brethren for accusing them of creating a pandemic and infecting Americans when college students visiting their country brought swine flu here. That's wrong on so many levels.
Volcano monitoring, pandemic preparedness, hurricane damage prepardeness...why should we be squirreling money away for events that are unlikely to happen?
Oh wait....
Pigs in particular are incubator for new deadly pandemics.
Pigs are unique in the animal kingdom in their ability to host humans and avian viruses.
These viruses can combine in the pigs.
Humans resist virus well if they are similar to older viruses.
Combination viruses from pigs are different from either and thus the most deadly.
I'm speaking of course of Pig Man's.
Mother Nature is an angry beast and we are poking sticks at her.
Never mind Mexico's pig farms being a breeding ground for bacteria/viral infested foods - what the hell is the FDA doing in our own country?
By allowing the industrialization of our food supply here we are poisoning our own people: The peanut butter scare, the spinach scare, the juice scare, the dog food scare - it seems every part of American life is being tainted by the failures of the government to keep the food supply safe.
There are no inspections of food coming into this country or products made here. Fire those idiots at the FDA who are too busy taking drug company bribes - to do their freaking jobs!!! Fire them all I say!!
ummm what does that have to do with swine flu...........or doc's hilarious blog?
Associated Press -
"Large-scale swine producers in Mexico deny that their industry is the source of the deadly new influenza strain, saying the animals are all healthy, and that it is scientifically "not possible" for hogs to infect people with the illness. But lawmakers in the eastern state of Veracruz are now charging that large-scale hog and poultry operations are "breeding grounds" of infection that are making people sick and fueling the pandemic."
(and doc's blog was funny as hell)
The industry statement that this disease was not transmitted from pigs to people contradicts virtually all Mexican government statements so far, including Mexico's Health Minister, Jose Angel Cordova, who said the virus, "mutated from pigs, and then at some point was transmitted to humans." Whether they were Mexican pigs or not remains a mystery, of course. I tend to agree with doc that the cable news television strain of swine-flu, or Pig-Man's disease is at fault.
Dr. B. has 'outed' readers into commenting who are from Maine and Texas recently. Well, now it's my turn:
Mexico City was NOT the epicenter of the disease as has been widely reported in the (pigman) media. People in La Gloria Veracruz were getting sick since last December and the first two children died in march.
60% of the population in La Gloria got sick. Now the children's bodies have been buried and the government refuses to take them out and check for infection because they say there's no link between their death and the new virus. Inhabitants of La Gloria have been fighting for a long time to stop Granjas Carroll from polluting the water and contaminating the air. The response: they were harassed, imprisoned and are currently on trial. This issue has been known for years!
Many articles were published regarding the situation in La Gloria during the last weeks but strangely, now that the new virus is out nobody mentions that anymore.
I live in Mexico and I'm outraged by this situation. What can we do to fight this giant multi-national monster called Smithfield Foods?
Please help!
Here's a link with some pictures from the pig farm in La Gloria:
http://suburbiodeimagen.blogspot.com/2009/04/contaminacion-de-granjas-carroll-de.html
Do you need any more evidence than that?
I've been outed? LOL
I hear you, Paka74. Factory farms concentrate animals in one area where feces penetrate the soil and poison the groundwater in rural areas that use wells. High nitrates in well water kills small animals and babies. Even if one doesn't care about the humane treatment of pigs, at least think of the babies.
And yes, swine flu would be more prevalent and capable of spreading in a highly concentrated pig farm. More pigs, more germs.
I know Mexican govt. lobbying when I hear it. I live in America. I'm an expert on lawmakers who ignore public safety, health, economic dangers to the masses so they can make money enabling lobbyists.
Paka
welcome and thanks for posting that information.

No surprise that Smithfield Foods is at the root of this particular problem or of environmental degradation in general anywhere.
Smithfield led the charge against what eventually became the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a joint government oversight umbrella of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia in 1980. They threatened in the mid-80s to close operations in Virginia and relocate to North Carolina because of proposed Bay Clean up legislation - despite the fact that North Carolina was at the time beginning to craft Albemarle Sound legislation based on the Chesapeake Bay Commission.
Smithfield Foods has always sought to externalize its pollution costs and responsibilities. Only legislation and coordinated efforts by both Mexico and the US can make them responsible for cleaning up after themselves. This is one example of those so-called "Side Agreements" that was left out of NAFTA.
Ironically, much of the waste stream PROPERLY TREATED could be put to productive use in other sectors of the Mexican Agriculture.
I've been a vegetarian for 18 months now for various reasons. Couldn't be happier with my decision any more than today.
Stop eating Pork!
We can save 100's of million of people's lives by eliminating domestic pigs.
Pigs are one of the few animals that both avian viruses and human virus can coexist and create radically different and dangerous pandemics.
"On Sunday, the state government of Veracruz confirmed swine influenza in a five-year-old girl in the village of La Gloria, located near a massive US-owned hog facility. The bodies of two other village children who died in February and March will be exhumed and tested for signs of the illness, local media reports said.
And in the western state of Guerrero, 500 pigs were just killed after becoming ill with swine flu."
I only got this far before thinking how eating these animal products have displaced the small farmers in these areas and has the markings of making a world wide flu epidemic. SHAME TO CORPORATIONS, if you own stock, SELL IT because blood is on the hands of all that benefit from these dysfunctional phantom wealth breeding grounds.
Now for Meatless Wednesday Breakfast...
President Obama has just asked Congress for $1.5 billion in emergency funds to fight the illness...better pass it THIS time, Sen. Collins!
By the way, as of this comment, 2 border states, New Mexico and Arizona, have no reported cases. The answer is not found in geography.
But the conservative pigmen are being really racist about this!
You're soooo correct. On his radio show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh went on a long rant about how anything associated with President Obama ends up failing. He used newspapers and CNN as his primary examples, but then turned to some far more inflammatory (and completely inexplicable) examples.
"[E]verywhere Obama is spreading Obamaism, there is a deadly disease taking place, either in the TARP community or in the newspaper business," he said. "Obama goes to Mexico -- they have an earthquake. Obama goes to Mexico -- we get pig flu."
Oh. My. God!
Limbaugh has had pig flu for so long he has become immune to being around himself.
Limbaugh listeners did not have to go to Mexico yet they've been exposed to a swine for years.
"Illegal aliens are bringing in a deadly new flue strain. Make no mistake about it," blares Michael Savage.
"I've blogged for years about the spread of contagious diseases from around the world into the US as a result of uncontrolled immigration," writes Michelle Malkin.
"What happens if there's a rash of deaths in Mexico... and if you're a family in Mexico and people are dying and Americans are not, why wouldn't you flood this border?" announces Glenn Beck.
"What better way to sneak a virus into this country than to give it to Mexicans....then spread a rumor there there are construction jobs here, and there they come," blathers Boortz.
Savage — "make no mistake about it" — believes that radical Islamic countries planted the virus in Mexico knowing that humans make the "perfect mules for bringing the strain into America."
Oh. My. Friggin. God!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Unfuckingbelievabel. Its time for Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, to speak out against this virulent strain of pigman looniness. Immigrants aren't responsible for infecting Americans with swine flu — but racist commentators like these are spreading a far more destructive disease: hate!
The first American cases of swine flu have turned up in New York City students who recently returned from a trip to Cancun, Mexico — they brought it with them!!!!!!
They're the human mules!!!!! American tourists returning from Mexico are at this point virtually all the other culprits spreading the new flu!
Yes! The fact that this new flu is just an excuse to spread racism becomes even more disgustingly apparent when Michael Savage blares to his audience that he will protect himself by having "no contact anywhere with illegal aliens and that starts with the restaurants." He calls people who dine out "morons who eat in restaurants with illegals all over the kitchen."
You could substitute the word "vermin" for "illegals" and he sounds frighteningly reminiscent of the Nazis talking about the Jews.
Associated Press:
Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, following Rush Limbaugh's cue, suggested on Tuesday that President Obama was to blame for the swine flu crisis.
She went even farther than the talk show host, implying that swine flu epidemics are a Democratic phenomenon that dates back to President Carter.
"I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter. And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence."
Unfortunately, Bachmann's facts are a little off. Republican President Gerald Ford, not Carter, led the country during the last outbreak of the swine flu virus.
It does not matter. She linked the Carter and swine flu and Democrats.
It simply does not matter if it is true or not. That is what propaganda is all about.
We Dems gotta stop relying on the idea that just because it is not factually true, the masses will reject it.
The GOPers learned this long ago. Reagan.
To a large part of the population. Facts don't matter. Really, they don't.
OK, you pigmen/women ignoramuses: what you're saying is idiotic and racist on so many levels, it has to be called out.
#1. Why would we believe that Islamic countries or terrorist groups would have virologists capable of creating a new bio-terrorist flu? Didn't we fall for the Weapons of Mass Destruction line already, and start a war over it?
#2. If terror groups were capable of planting it among Mexicans — why wouldn't they be just as capable as planting it among Americans? If they couldn't get into the country, they'd just need to get a few of their own infected people to hang out in a foreign airport with flights going to the US.
#3. Since most of the Mexicans who are sick are in Mexico City, hundreds of miles from the US border, how exactly would they just pick up and "rush it?"
AAAaaarrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!
I knew this would happen. This is exactly the type of thing that the repubs love to jump on. I am, however, constantly surprised that Michael Savage and Michelle Malkin continue to disparage minorities. It's just sad. so much for the melting pot.
Now I get why doc satirized these 'Pig Men' --- these repugs are actually spewing their racist hate over the swine flu business. Incredible. Great blog doc, even greater now that I know what prompted it!
Ummm.. the guy who was infected in (iowa, oklahoma? not sure) actually went to mexico himself and brought it back. So is Savage saying anyone who visits and comes back from Mexico is an illegal alien? (sarcasm)
Make no mistake that there's an undertow of racism involved. But those who harbor racist feelings & thoughts aren't just those on the so called right. I see it among those of my own political affiliation concerning this matter. People I know may not speak loudly about it & certainly wouldn't go on television to express their bigotry but some believe the hype that goes with stereotypes. What a shame.
And the GOP is devastated by Spector's defection?????.....This is the perfect example of why he left.
Gee, I hadn't realized that viruses have become so smart they can tell the difference between a caucasian tourist, an American citizen of hispanic ancestry, and a tourist from latin America - and, apparently, according to the Repubs, the viruses only hop on the backs (or bloodstreams) of "illegals."
Wow ... that is some serious genetic engineering. What will those Islamic radicals think of next?
the ny school was infected by those who took spring break in mexico. What are these pigmen doing for chrissake?
I'm sick of the racist hate!
It is one thing to be sarcastic and condescending but it is another thing to be hateful, divisive, and ignorant. I'm sick of people talking down to people like they're subhuman!!! If the conservatives do not stop the hatred I will find out who each and every product/sponsor is and I will boycott their products. I will make signs to inform others. Hmmm good idea, think I'll do that without them changing their evil ways. Keep talking conservative commentators, "Money talks, bullshit runs a marathon."
This is not only a possible pandemic of Swine flu but it will also be a pandemic of xenophobia and racism amongst our conservative friends. Such a sad world we live in. During the black death people blamed the plague on the Jews and plenty of Jews were killed or died of the plague. Hopefully the same does not happen to our Mexican friends.
This is a perfect example why we need Universal Health care .
People who become infected will just go to work and spread the disease because they can't afford to stay home or go to the doctor.
This will effect poor and rich people.
Example: A large Corporation provides,on site, flu shots for its employees but will not provide flu shots for the Cafeteria contract workers who handle their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Enjoy your meal.
Glitch: "Wow! Unfuckingbelievable. Its time for Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, to speak out against this virulent strain of pigman looniness."
Michael Steele is too much of a coward to speak out- do I have to remind you of how he stood up to limbaugh?
You need not, what a joke!
PS- Doc, today's blog had me rolling in the aisles. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard (but it was probably on one of your blogs).
Guess what. There are people in other counties who think Americans all have AIDS and spread it. This particular flu has an American stamp on it, because the outbreak is near an American owned mega hog farm that may not be processing its waste well enough. This company has been fined in our own country for the same thing. Since Americans are not universally loved, this is just one more thing they can use to fuel their hate for the US. How awful that there is so much ignorance in the world and that the ignorant can attain such positions of power.
I am thinking the normal flu kills as many people a year and infects so many more. Why are those statistics not coming out? Can it be that the Right is trying to create another hysterical moment to hide something awful they are doing or going to do? After 'weapons of mass destruction, torture, and all the mystery that still surrounds 9/11, I simply can no longer trust them.
I think we should just let them talk - let them get as crazy as they want to. That will ensure marginalization for them and their followers for years to come. Rational people on both sides know how this happened, and fortunately we outnumber the other numbskulls.
The repubs own and run the mainstream media. They succeed by instilling fear in as many US voters & citizens as possible. Fear, hate, bigotry, racism... all part of the same package the repubs have manipulated our country with since 9/11.
However, like rabid dogs backed up against the wall, they bark much louder than the liberals and the moderates.
Fox highlights and celebrates their perspective, popularizing the behavior amongst its supporters. And even though the democrats won this time around, the republican political machinery that generates these locos--the superconservative churches, conservative schools, and the right wing media--are still alive and kicking.
So long as these institutions remain, conservatives of this kind will never run out.
The only solution is to reach out to these conservatives regardless of their bile towards liberals and moderates. Saving them from their dark indoctrination is a democratic duty--for it sets these people free, and in the long run, saves democracy from tyrannical movements.
They sell what the audience is buying, and one thing for sure is these guys co know their audience.
Yes, but it's not working. The republicans approval rating is 21%. President Obama is at 68%. Nothing they are doing is even putting a dent in the president's favorability around the country.
The Republican Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Christian Identity church.
I can just imagine what the "independant" Lou Dobbs has to say. He's so predictable I don't have to watch the show to know.
I enjoy watching Lou Dobbs "SOMETIMES" but let's get one thing straight about Old Lou, he's a damn republican. Canarypapers is right: Fear and Hate is all the right has to sell.
Asking the GOP to disavow the racism of their putative leaders is like asking them to vote yes on stem cell research.
Not.gonna.happen.
Moreover, they are simply voicing what their choir already believes.
The wingnuts are as predictable as ever! The minute I heard about this flu, I said to myself, here we go again with the immigration hate and blame shit.
I've been making these observations about the GOP and its mouthpieces for years. Its not just the Republican media that's crazy either. it's elected persons as well, such as Bachmann, Bachus etc
As if there wasn't enough racism in this country without these bastards adding to it.
No wonder Specter defected. The Republican leadership is spineless. And the loud mouth commentators are making a fortune spewing this garbage. Repubs - what a mess.
Don't expect any republicans to speak out about this. Their base is almost exclusively mindless bigots. It is quickly becoming a party that no rational human being wants to be a part of.
The Swine Flu has spread as far as New Zealand.
Are illegal immigrants from Mexico responsible for that too?
A major flu pandemic broke out following WW I, was that the fault of illegal immigrants too?
The comments made by these loud mouthed pundits only show their ignorance of how viral outbreaks work.
They all need to take a remedial biology class or read "Pandemics For Conservative Dummies".
Viruses exist to propagate their DNA, they don't care who they infect or what country they came from.
Once again, instead of putting their talents to work helping with the problem (publicizing the CDC'S recommendations on how to avoid the disease for example), the right wing pundits would rather find convenient scapegoats for their bigoted smallminded audience.
The theory is that current outbreak may have originated at a pig farm co-owned by an American company, but the loud mouths aren't criticizing modern pig farming techniques that pack pigs in like sardines.
They aren't concerned with the conditions that exposed people to the virus.
They just want to hate on illegal immigrants who have the same chance of dying from swine flu as anyone else.
First these PigMen Pundits said that minorities caused the mortgage crash; now "illegal immigrants" are spreading disease, and Arabs have concocted this entire scheme.
But somehow they still believe Obama got 90+% of the black vote b/c he's black. These folks are clueless. We need the pres. of Brazil to speak out again. These fools don't get it.
This is all these people are good for, nothing else! They feed on hate and division.
I am especially shocked at Michael Savage, he's a scientist (he holds degrees in ethnobotany, ethnomedicine, and anthropology) and has written books (under his real name, Michael Weiner) on the subjects of health, herbal medicine, and nutrition, he should know better.
He does - that's what really makes all this so sick. Most of these people don't believe in anything other than themselves and their salaries, IMO. A lot of what they do is utterly cynical, which really makes it uglier than if they believed their lies and propaganda.
Yeah, like a swine flu-stricken Mexican national would be capable of walking miles in the desert. Please.
Since there is absolutely no evidence that illegal aliens have anything to do with this (on the contrary, there's quite a bit of evidence showing it's tourists returning from Mexico), then these Pig-Men are bringing up illegal aliens solely for the purpose of spreading fear and distrust of people from that country.
That is inflaming people and pushing for racist reactions.
Michelle Malkin wrote a book defending the forced detention of Japanese-Americans during World War II. I know she has serious issues.
Where is Michele from?
Child of Filipino parents who were in the U.S. on a visa . . . you know, the kind of kids she now wishes to prevent from claiming their rightful place as American citizens.
Sowing the seeds of hate
the seeds of hate
Sowing the sees of hate
For satan
If you look at most of the people who are sick outside of Mexico, they are not illegal immigrants, they are people who visited Mexico (look at the cases in New York for example), so to blame this on immigration is plain wrong and racist. Quote from doc's amazing blog today:
"Researchers at the World Health Organization are concerned that this latest strain [of PigMan's] may be even more virulent than previous outbreaks, citing abnormally high levels of douchebaggery, blatant hypocrisy, RACIST [my caps] demagoguery and amoral equivocation."
Good grief! We are all interested in keeping people safe, but so far it's been American tourists who have brought this strain of Swine Flu back to the United Sates from Mexico, so these repubs need to stop trying to blame it on immigration.
I wonder how many wealthy Republicans have beach condos down in Mexico?
Way to not court the Hispanic vote GOP! Who would have ever though there was such a large group of morons in the country
Given that the greatest outbreak, and greatest threat to spread the flu, comes from a bunch of tony private school kids from New York, their neocon PigMan logic pretty much fails. Not that that's a surprise.
even now, with full knowledge, many people are still traveling to mexico under the belief that it won't happen to them, and out of disregard for all of the people that they may infect and those who will then be infected by them; either while they're still down there or after they come back.
There is a clear solution to the "False News Channel". Start a movement demanding the removal of their channel from the cable lineup or the movement will drop the cable services altogether. It's called making a point with your wallet. If 70% of cable viewers complained that they wanted Fox News gone or they would walk, believe me Fox News would be gone!
Lets face it much of our country is racist and they like to hear from their own kind. from Dr. B: "Though Anglo-Saxon males over the age of fifty are particularly at risk, any person displaying increased jowl-size, chubbiness, baldness, a pasty or pinkish complexion, and displaying abnormally high levels of smug bullshit should be considered a potential career of PM, or Pig Man's."
LOL There are some movements to have them remove "fair and balanced" from their logo. There was an online petition and I think also an FCC request.
But if Jesus came back, wouldn't he be an illegal alien.
With olive skin, dark curly hair and brown eyes.
Preaching socialism
Oh oh better call the FBI
You think he might (gasp!) be a terrorist?
No way, first of all he would have a green card or work VISA. Secondly, he is white with blue eyes and dark brown hair and surprisingly looks like Jeffrey Hunter.
Sorry, Jesus' second coming has been canceled. Seems he didn't get the right visa.
He'd probably be labeled a terrorist.
these Pig/Men people on cable news are just plain hateful. They are the proprietors and sellers of hate: Mexicans, Gays, Women any group they can hold up as the reason for any ills in their own lives instead of working for what can make this world better. Idealistic, yes. Sad, that it will never happen with these people on the air spewing hatred.
1) No one will know for a long time where the first human case of swine flu originated. The so-called Spanish Influenza actually started in the U.S.
2) Even Islamic terrorists are not stupid enough to unleash a virus over which they will have no control. Viruses are equal-opportunity infectors and always come back home to visit in the end.
3) How quickly a virus spreads depends on its incubaton period and access to high-speed travel. People who don't feel ill yet can be carrying the virus onto a planeload of people who will all go home to infect others. National Geographic has some frightening maps of how quickly a virus will spread today versus the spread of Spanish Influenza and the Hong Kong Flu.
4) Swine Flu is re-emerging, and it will be better adapted to humans and therefore, much much worse than the present virus. Malkin, Beck, et al, should devote their big flapping lips to supporting the CDC's work to develop a vaccine before the next wave, instead of injecting moronic anti-Mexican cant into the discussion.
So hate does not work , that is why we must be prepared for this epidemic.
What can anyone do? We must each be ready to face a hellish time ahead with too little too late. We each need to take personal responsibility and combat the fear and flu.
Cuba has closed its air border with Mexico. Same with Argentina. Soon the Latin American countries will close borders to all traffic from the north.
We will still not stop the poor and sick that need medical assistance from coming to the US. We must help them with drugs and care. Our red cross could meet them at the border crossings with tents to help the sick.
Let all the sick freely cross into the states. Compassion will work to stop this pandemic like a brick.
We should then welcome the sick into our hospitals for free, and have $1.5 billion to help them as the president has asked for.
We are so rich and they are so poor that we can accept them into the country without hurting our business with Mexico.
The UN should send food and medical help now as they need the world to protect them.
The world will help according to each country's ability.
What Would Socialist Jesus Do?
"in a column describing why the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot was dropping Malkin's column in 2004, that paper's editor, Marvin Lake, described Malkin's writings as "seemingly mean-spirited rantings." The column also quoted another Virginian-Pilot columnist as saying that Malkin "habitually mistakes shrill for thought-provoking and substitutes screaming for discussion." That columnist also said that Malkin represents "the worst of what's wrong with punditry today" and "adds absolutely nothing to genuine political discourse."
Next the Oinkers will turn on college kids.
Everyone knows it's college kids that go to Mexico on spring break, then don't stay home when they start to feel sick, rather go to parties and drink and make out with random strangers and play a drinking game called "spread the swine flu"
Occam's Razor: the simplest explanation is usually the right one.
The logical fallacies of rhetoric have no end.
First they want to close the borders to stop illegal immigration because of terrorists, even though all the terrorists who entered did so legally.
Then they wanted to stop the immigrants from taking American jobs.
Now they want to prevent disease, brought in mainly by their own children returning to home.
These are rationalizations for one common purpose.
To stop dark skinned people from entering the country.
First word that comes to mind?
Whatever.
I’m all out of outrage and fear. Everything in this world has the potential to kill you, so why should this swine flu situation be any different? It’s not so much the government response that annoys me, they need to cover their asses. That’s understandable. Just don’t go overboard.
No, it’s the media and their obsessive need to make everything a tragedy or epidemic all in the name of ad revenue. And you know how I feel about the conservative media ranters in particular or you haven't been reading my blog.
TO ALL FRIGGIN' MEDIA:
Stop it!
Remember a while back when SARS was going to kill 1/3 of the planet and make the other 2/3 zombies?
Not a single case of severe acute respiratory syndrome has been reported this year or in late 2004. It is the first winter without a case since the initial outbreak in late 2002.
That was 5 years ago. But we sure got a eyeful on nightly news about it at the time, though.
SARS? What’s that? No way, Avian flu is where the money is.
Officials in London were quietly looking for extra morgue space to house the victims of the H5N1 virus, a never-before-seen strain of flu. Scientists said this virus could pose a far greater threat than smallpox, AIDS or anthrax.
Nope, that didn’t pan out either.
Oh and by the way, if you get the flu don’t take this shit:
Tamiflu
It's an antiviral used to treat the flu, but it doesn’t work against most of the viruses circulating in the U.S. this season, federal officials say. Definitely not this strain of Swine flu.
Yup, you read that right. Turns out it’s not as effective as they thought. Good thing we’ve been stockpiling it for years.
Stop it!
Should we take precautions? Of course, that’s the logical thing to do.
Planning any trips to Mexico soon? Yea, maybe you should put that off for a bit.
Wash your hands regularly (not anti-bacterial soap, don’t get me started on that one) and don’t cough in people’s faces.
Sounds like good advice to me. If I had to sum it up, it’s basically:
Everyone settle the fuck down.
Wait... the World Health Organization just raised the Swine flu alert to 'Pandemic Level 5', the 2nd highest...
Forget what I just said!
Lock yourselves in your rooms and stay away from all human contact until this totally blows over.
And stop watching cable news or you'll catch PigMan's directly from your TV!
Whatever.
- Dr. B. -
LOL
LOl I agree. My objection to the story has to do with the unending focus of the television news headlines on this topic. And because of budget cutbacks, the stations are repeating the stories more willingly. I caught the same swine flu story at 5:40 a.m. and again about an hour later. Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post quotes Mark Feldstein, a former news correspondent who now teaches journalism at George Washington University, as saying: "Cable news has 24 hours to fill, and there isn't 24 hours of exciting news going on. If you scare people, they'll tune in more."
Instead of 'tuning in more' maybe viewers will use another option: the "switch the channel" option.
Normally I am a total news junky. I'm okay with all the fretting that's going on over President Obama's First Hundred Days (I mean really, what major tasks have any of us taken on and completed in 100 days?) and I guess I might pay attention to a report on who takes Bo out for the last airing at night.
But for now, I am looking for alternatives to the news and tuning in to Animal Planet (no pig stories please!) and the History Channel.
While there may come a time when I want minute-by-minute reports on the spread of this illness, right now I know all I need to know about it.
Let's welcome Kathleen Sebelius to her new post as head of Health and Human Services, and let the CDC get to work on what they need to be doing to protect the public.
A Mexican woman at my sisters Pilates class just told them that she's going to Mexico tomorrow with her kids and would miss class.
When told that the CDC has asked that we cancel all but essential travel to Mexico, her response was, "I know, but the kids would be so disappointed".
Draw your own conclusions.
"A phase 5 alert means there is sustained transmission among people in at least two countries. Once the virus shows effective transmission in two different regions of the world a full pandemic outbreak would be declared.
WHO has confirmed human cases of swine flu in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Britain, Israel, New Zealand and Spain.
'All countries should immediately now activate their pandemic preparedness plans. It really is all of humanity that is under threat in a pandemic,' WHO Director General Margaret Chan told reporters in Geneva."
Whatever, doc? Think I'll take your advice and lock myself in my room, with a stack of good books, no TV or radio, just my PC. Let me know when it's safe to come out. LOL
Ooooo PANIC
Ooooo HYSTERIA
the conservative media's lovin this.
It's the response, not the actual flu we need worry about.
Are we going to die from swine flu? No. Are we in danger of SARS? No. Foot and mouth disease? No. Will it affect people flying short-haul flights around America or Europe this summer? Thankfully, no.
It could be a tragedy only for the elderly and very young people with poor immune systems living in slums in Asia or Mexico. But will the honeymoon couple from Edinburgh die? No. A couple of aspirin will do the job, Fisherman’s Friend if it gets really bad.
IT's THE FUCKING FLU! PERIOD! relax, and avoid Fox News.
Swine flu better not affect my bacon supply, that's all I've got to say.
I suspect the real culprit behind this was Kermit the Frog. Kermit converted to Islam after contracting an STD from Ms. Piggy. Ever since, the green menace has been living in a cave with bin Laden plotting to terrorize swine.
This is just a test of your Emergency Pandemic System. If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to run in your area for vaccines and Tamiflu. This concludes this test of the Emergency Pandemic System.
Too bad the swine flu scare is harming the stock market...
Oh, wait... Dow Jones, Standard & Poor's, and Nasdaq all just closed higher than they've been in months!
Nevermind.
The common flu is far more deadly than the swine flu in the US. The Centers for Disease Control estimates 36,000 people die annually in the United States from the flu. The swine flu's gonna have to work real hard to even get included in these numbers.

Exactly!
ATLANTA, April 29 (UPI) -- There has been only one U.S swine flu fatality so far (a toddler in TX who had just been in Mexico), but since January more than 13,000 people in the US have died of complications from seasonal flu, officials said.

Doc, you crack me up!!! ROTFLMAO
