I'm in Canada and although I am blonde as well as old ;)
I was told once that I was pretty smart.
I also have Canadian roots, maybe that's why I rate all Canadians as

Then how do you explain Sarah Palin?
There is just no explaining Sarah Palin.
I had heard that there was a correlation between the red and blue states and I.Q. and, to be honest, my personal experience with Republican voters this time round (with a few exceptions) actually supported this correlation (in the way that I
define intelligence). The exceptions that I knew were all extremely wealthy individuals who were by no means unintelligent; they were simply greedy. They knew that Bush & McCain's foreign policy sucks, but they
just didn't want to let go of their 80,000 to 100,000 dollar tax
breaks.
Obama be gettin' them $250,000 + folks, betcha.
I once joked with a friend who intended moving to a less
desirable suburb. I suggested that the average I.Q. of both suburbs
would increase as a result of his move.
Why are there Red republican states? Don't they know what Bush repubs have done to us the last 8 years? Don't they know they're voting against their interests?
I've spent the last eight years trying to figure that one out.
here are some possibilities:
a) perhaps they don't realize they're not getting the promised benefits
b) maybe their family and social circle has always voted Republican
and so they do too
c) they personally identify with the conservative Christian movement
which Bush/Palin represents
d) above all else, they want legal abortion abolished and they believed McCain/Palin would do it for them
e) above all else, they want to stem the tide of legal gay marriage
f) their current job security is tied in with the well-being of a very large corporation that is directly or indirectly supported by the interests of the Republican party
g) they think war is 'cool' because they can't discern between a video game and real life
h) they're xenophobic . . . ?
i) their only source of info is Fox News
your guess is as good as mine . . .
j) right wing conservative fundamentalist Christian is in a class by itself
k) rich people who voted against McCain/Palin have a conscience. Let's not forget the flip side of the coin.

Rich people, whatever party affiliation, voted for Obama because they felt he had a better grasp on the economy than McCain, and they want to stay rich!
I wonder what these IQ maps would tell us if the IQ scores were shown
county by county. Or if we took the average IQ of those who voted for
Bush2004/McCain2008 and those who voted for Kerry2004/Obama2008.
English Puritans, who were literate and middle class, primarily settled New England. Their descendants spread west along the northernmost tier of states. They established the most prestigious colleges , which continue to attract smart young people from the rest of the country.
The English Quakers of Pennsylvania invited in Germans of similarly peaceful and productive dispositions . They settled along the mid-northern tier. They also tended to be above average in their emphasis on education, although not quite as scholarly as the Puritans.
Farther south, from West Virginia and Tennessee, through the Ozarks, into Oklahoma and out to the Central Valley of California, the feisty Scots-Irish found their homes. The finest pioneers, they didn't mind raising their kids FAR from a schoolhouse.
The coastal South attracted the southern English, who erected a quasi-aristocratic society with a well-educated elite and a poorly schooled mass.
History explains a lot, folks.
As a former American (whose citizenship was tossed onto the garbage bin with W's first win in 2000), I find Americans utterly incomprehensible. How is it possible that ONE out of every FOUR of you still believe that W is a great president? How is it that over ONE out of every THREE of you STILL believe that Sarah Palin would make a great Vice President, and by extension, PRESIDENT??!
I *DO* understand that the folks who comment here don't belong to the slim majorities of Americans possessing double-digit brain cells. But statistically speaking, you each know dozens of people who would have enthusiastically welcomed Sarah Palin into the White House. WTF? How do you go about your daily lives without experiencing severe and potentially fatal aneurysms?
Yes, it is incomprehensible, but there are sources of the lack of sense. Many Americans are still wanting to at least pretend they are religious, so you can easily manipulate them politically with this.
The Republicans started making themselves seem more virtuous way back, by talking about the Silent Majority and the Moral Majority. They talked about "family values" and tried to appropriate morality, Christianity, patriotism, and now regular-Joe-ness for the Republican party. The term PC is perjorative, as the word "liberal" has become also, and it is also associated with wimpiness and eating quiche and drinking wine instead of beer,and has also been successfully associated with the Democratic party. Nice guys finish last. This was mostly marketing rather than reality, but it has worked surprisingly well.
This anti-PC trend contributed to the rise of the SUV. Manliness and/or coolness was associated with a huge vehicle, not being concerned with the environment, and anti-intellectualism. Plus gas was cheap for a long time.
Complacency is being reduced by recent financial problems and the 7 years of war so far but many citizens are still not really paying attention to who is governing them.
There is still deep arrogance from years of relative prosperity and many still don't really believe that things are changing permanently.
Amen.
What boggles my mind is why no-one has EVER mentioned her and her husband's involvement with a secessionist organization. She goes on and on about Obama not seeing the United States like she does, while she supports the secession of Alaska from the United States. Completely insane.

I so wish Al Capp was still around. Palin would give him so much material for Li'l Abner he could do the strip just on her & her family for years.

SARAH PALIN DID NOT KNOW THAT AFRICA WAS A CONTINENT. And O'Reilly tries to shrug that off by saying, "well, that's something you can learn." Yeah, it's something you can learn IN THE FOURTH GRADE.
I don't think she even qualifies for an IQ.
Barack Obama is better than us. We've analyzed our lives from every possible angle, and from no vantage point do we win. He is smarter than us, and more even-tempered. His marriage is stronger and his children are more adorable (our child just turned 2, and he bites.) Barack works out, he can do chin ups, plays basketball and he surfs. He can discuss his tax plan with any old plumber on the street. He is funny. Not just "funny for a politician", but actually funny. He went to two Ivy Leagues universities and then took a low-paying job that helped people. We dropped out of several community colleges and then telemarketed, which, if we recall, exploited the elderly.
Oh sure, he can't bowl. That would be some consolation if we could, but we can't bowl either. Obama talked an army of volunteers into working 40, 50, 60 hours a week for him, until he won. We can't even get the super to fix our toilet without sticking a fifty in his ass crack. He even says, "Si se puede," with a perfect Hispanic accent. (By "Hispanic," we mean "Mexican." If Obama spoke Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent- well, jeez, even we can do that.)
We'll miss being better than the president. During this Bush era, we were smarter, soberer, nicer and honester. One his daughters was a drunk slut, and his wife was strange in a way that suggests she is doing something in secret. Something terrible we'll hear about after she dies. Sarah Palin and her family promised an even higher escalation of our ego, but the better man won.
