The World According To ME thinks it's about time for a non-satirical rant from one of the good guys (ME), so republican readers are advised to get out their dictionaries, or just fucking leave.
RANT:
It's easy to believe airliners were brought down by guys with box cutters.
For this nation's duly elected president and his progressive policies to be kneecapped by a minority of loud, angry, possibly psychotic right-wing zombots is a sure sign that democracy is nothing more than a gossamer ideal.
And by lazily allowing such ideological idiocy to spread unchecked we now have the cultural equivalent of cancer.
There is no more reason for anyone to grant Republicans any respect. They have abdicated their authority. Their intentions are clear, their leaders too in love with their own salaries, their brazen goal to become the Kamikaze party reaching critical mass. Their credibility is all but dead, reduced to a bitter, gaping, black hole.
And thanks to them, democracy seems poised to tumble in.
Politics may be politics but this has gone way beyond gamesmanship and into the realm of wanton, drunken destruction. So far, no sane Republican---if there is one---has been roused by any nascent patriotism to voice opposition to any of the mad utterances vomited forth from the party's leaders and their "grassroots" infantilized infantry.
They have demonstrated daily that, having lost the presidential election and control of congress they've lost their their cultural relevance and all sense of morality as well, and in a fatally childish tantrum, are executing a nuclear option. The leadership itself has allowed the dead-enders into the fold and purposefully impregnated those soft-boiled egg psyches with apocalyptic imagery. The rest of us were too stunned to think that it was actually happening, that the Republicans would kill everyone and everything to wrest control back from a citizenry which wanted nothing more of their Grand Old Party's grand guignol.
And in monumental self delusion, the daily news cycle spins and spins with a wink as brazen as Sarah Palin's, as if we are all in on it and that this sort of thing is "healthy in a democracy". If anything, that alone means we might really be closer than ever to a real societal calamity, something that makes this economic crisis look like a picnic.
Only if every salvo is met with equal ferocity, if every pseudo fact is countered by reality is there a chance. To lay back and let vitriol burn itself out is unrealistic in a time when such things are the bread and butter of the corporate controlled media, when despair and division is essential to their profit margins. Oh, yeah, and Happy Labor Day, folks.
You say you want a revolution? Well, alright.

Good for you doc. Your political satire cracks me up, and yesterday's blog on your colonoscopy had me in tears, but today you RANTED! And it's about time SOMEONE did! Kudos, dude.
Hell, I'm a progressive democrat, and I needed dictionary.com to translate some of your rant, but that's OK - the repub ranters are incoherent, inarticulate, and ignorant; you've clearly demonstrated that our side isn't (President Obama leading the way, of course, with demonstrated intelligence and articulation, in contrast to his dimwit predecessor Bush).
Tomorrow he'll talk to the kids (hopefully the ones who need to hear him will hear him) and on Wednesday he'll talk to a joint session of Congress. The repubs took over the media when he and congress went on vacation in August. Now they're back, and hopefully America will see who's really back in charge.
And you can get back to being your satirically brilliant self on this blog.
i got the gist of docs blog (yes i looked up gist know its meaning and spelled it right) and typed the words i didnt know into google. i was cheering yes yes yes and then the beatles came on relly fired me up!!
time to fight back and take our country back from the glen becks!!
I still don't know whether or not to trust you AZ, but I couldn't agree more.
i seem to remember a cartoon of a ridiculous elephant dancing around and shrieking with a hiked up "skirt" over a cartoon mouse. that's this country with the idiot right wingers. we should just put our foot down already and squash this nonsense. the gop is done anyway, let's face it.
Can you say Corporate Welfare?
The Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele will introduce the repub's latest campaign this Tuesday. It's called "Elect us, or we'll hold our breaths until you do."

They used to do this, but no longer. Even President Eisenhower knew about this problem that we face today. I strongly recommend watching this video of Max Blumenthal that discusses this very issue:
http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/max-blumenthal-how-fanatical-religio
It turns out many of these vulnerable people have experienced personal crises that right-wingers were able to tap into, like child psychologist James Dobson, and manipulate toward a fringe theological agenda. The abuse many of them suffered as children, like Newt Gingrich, has shaped their political and world views. It's quite common for corporal punishment abuse victims to confuse love with abuse as Dobson espouses.
This untethered sick sadomasochistic dysfunction is becoming normalized through our mainstream media and society.
RIGHT ON.
The problem is not a hand full of rednecks. The problem is corporate rule. Our Political and financial institutions are hopelessly corrupt. Our corporate masters would love to see us fighting a civil war. As long as they can keep us playing Red vs. Blue they are safe.
What is needed is an uprising of ALL the people against the 1% who currently own our Banks, our Media, our Government, and of course our Health Care System.
Amen to that, hardcorelib.
It's the ONLY thing that will save us, and the time is fast approaching where it's either shit or get off the pot!
"Infantilized infantry"! Awesome.
Good point. Is the KKK also great for democracy? I mean, they are just voicing their opinions. They arent lynching blacks and killing homos anymore. So...
But they pine for the good old days....
The best response Democrats can have to Republican dishonesty is to bite their fingers off.
Brilliant again but I think revolution of a reactionary nature has already occured. It's now time for the counter revolution to reestablish democracy in the faces of the corporatists and authoriatarians embodied in the Republican Party, the GOP media complex and their infantile foot soldiers. I'm once again beginning to hear the rumblings of people leaving the country that was heard prior to November because the glimmer of hope expressed by Obama in during the campaign has faded by the revelation that his overriding conviction is nothing more than "bipartisanship" which is merely political cover for preserving the status quo. It may well be that much of the counter-revolution will be planned in the cafes and meeting halls of Paris, London, Geneva, Berlin, Rome, Stockholm, Oslo etc. and doc, your ranting talent puts mine to shame.
I agree with you doc, and I, for one, try as hard as I can. Unfortunately, Barney Frank was right, sometimes there's no point because there's just no reasoning with most of these people (many of whom, unfortunately, I'm related to).
It's all a little out of control,
people at town hall meetings with guns, billions of taxpayer monies that just disappeared, war for profit, medicare recipients screeching against government healthcare and people taking them seriously!!, giving 15 million dollars a day to a country that refuses to follow conditions, public schools refusing to show a speech by the President to students, failed auto makers continuing to build gas guzzlers with government loans, too much concern for bipartisan success, unconstitutional actions ignored and not investigated by USAG, Wall Street concerns weighed more heavily than Main Street and consumer protection.......
it's enough to make you listen to that Beatles video over and over.
"It's easy to believe airliners were brought down by guys with box cutters."
For the first time, I disagree with you doc! It is, in fact, not at all easy to believe. One would have to suspend their disbelief for all time and no longer accept any semblance of logic, integrity or honesty towards oneself.
If it walks like a chicken and it cackles like a chicken ............. well, I guess it must be a freshly-baked, all-american apple pie!
Sept 11th is coming up on Friday, so I can see doc's point and why he opened with, and it's a good reminder of how repub fearmongering never ends.
You may be right about that 'societal calamity' but I doubt that the republican leadership or the wealthiest 1% are to blame alone. We have allowed it to happen.
It's a much larger fraction of people who are either still complacent or simply tired of even reacting to the spin-machines. There's a lot of rational adaptation in this, which has grown over decades.
Also, while it certainly is a political issue - par excellence, even - it may have less to do with red vs blue than apathy and desensitization.
You are definitely right doc, but there are two other important things: 1) Democrats are not united strongly enough to do the right thing, so even with large majorities they can't or won't pass major legislation; and 2) Logic can't win a debate with crazy.
These people out there are certifiable loons. Bringing rifles to Presidential Town Halls!?! What could make them change their mind??? They are in their own version of The Matrix. It's not the same reality as ours.
I hate to say this, but I have been thinking of it for a long time and someone finally used the phrase the other night. To use a Nixonian quote, progressive ideas are the "Silent Majority" on most issues, but in our current climate the outrageous minority of birthers/deathers/tenthers are put on an equal level as sentient beings. For Healthcare in particular, we were never given anything specific to rally around. It's so much easier to be against things than to work to find solutions.
But the reason democrats are not united enough has at least something to do with the overwhelming support the BlueDogs get from the insurance industry.
We need to rise up as some kind of huge mountain of outrage and force them to toe the party line. If they don't there will be a revolution - in the voting booths, to elect democrats that aren't DINO's.
This is no longer politics as usual. THIS IS WAR. The sooner those of us on the left get used to this new reality, the better. As Walt Kelly's Pogo Possum cartoon said once, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
I think congress should pass a bill forcing all repubs to take colonoscopy preps. Daily. Not colonoscopies, just the preps, each and every day. They'll be out of our way and on the john where they belong.
Thanks again doc, for a wonderful post if not satirical blog today.
As for the subject, I myself have watched about all I can of this disaster called the GOP vs. Everything Decent and Good.
There was a brief time when I fooled myself into thinking we had a chance. That there could be partisan compromise. That things in Washington could change, Yes We Can and all that...
These traitorous, fascist GOP fools have now reminded me that 'the fork be'a stickin' in it soon.'
Warm up the large lady singer, she's going to have to go on stage soon!
Great blog doc, but unfortunately it seems that the Democrats really don't want to lead but instead have relinquished their authority to the money bags of K Street and Wall Street as the defacto governing body for our nation.
thanks doc for saying well what the rest of us have been thinking, admittedly with a more limited mental vocabulary for some.
the media is treating these loons like their insanity is a qualified political opinion.
when did we lose control of what "poltically correct" means?
When did the reporters of news - i dare not call them journalists - stop making a judgment call on
what is content and what is just plain crazy, or when an elected official is too much of a coward
to say -" please madam, time to go back on your meds."
if we lose this battle it will empower these tin foil asshats even more.
You just have to blame the MSM for most of this. If only a few of them had the guts of Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann the American public would be so much better served.
I would LOVE to somehow pull the plug on Fox News. They are behind everything. In addition to talk radio and the likes of Rush, it's Fox that has the ear of the portion of the population that's barking mad.
Exactly. Repubs have to be TOLD what to think, and apparently they'll believe any lie Fox or rush tells them as if it's truth. They don't check their facts. fucking sheep. and the rest like rumplstiltskin says are too desensitized and apathetic.
Is there something wrong with asking follow up questions when some political hack makes an obviously false statement?
I don't think most of these folks would recognize Journalism if it smacked them in the face.
Where is The Press when someone makes a "birther", or "Kill Grandma" statement?
Why doesn't some network invite some Canadians to comment on their Healthcare System?
These 'msm' folks are letting us down, BIG TIME.
I'm afraid the manner in which these birther and kill grandma statements survive is a little more subtle.
The point is that there is a pre-selection and serious news outlets would never even think of reporting such crap. Because it's not worthy of mention.
So there's a certain gap in the 'demand-structure of the viewers' at the bottom of this. Where 'demand-structure' is a euphemism for pandering to the stupid.
yeah, you can't blame serious news for NOT confronting people who make such statements, because it is wise for them to ignore it altogether.
Even Maddow and MSNBC took on this subject only after it became a real nuisance, and rightly so.
You simply don't want to do the job of spreading this nonsense on a serious news show.
Well, it's always been true that "if it bleeds, it leads"
So if the repubs are making news by being loud flagrant assholes, and we dems aren't by being silent and thereby permitting it, what do we expect?
At first read, I thought you said fragrant assholes. That works for me too, Lol.
Ha! Funny!
Well, ALRIGHT doc! Truth to Power!
A long time ago I put on the uniform of this nation, swore an oath to defend this nation from all enemies both foreign and domestic. The Republican Party and all their little mouth pieces are now on notice.
That oath included protecting the Constitution. The nation is ALL the citizens. Careful there with the threats, but I empathize with your thinking.
He did say "ENEMIES", both foreign and domestic. That actually IS defending ALL citizens with only the exclusion of domestic ENEMIES..
Since when are American citizens enemies of the State?
You again??
The words, as cited, are "foreign and domestic". Now how would YOU define a "domestic" enemy?
Reading comprehension much?
We have a LONG HISTORY of "domestic" enemies. From the "Tories" of the revolutionary period, through the Confederacy, all the way to Timothy McVeigh. When those enemies amass in large numbers, the Military is available as a means of preserving the Republic.
Maybe you should take a class on the Constitution. Your understanding seems lacking.
Meanwhile, the gov't put in place for eight years by Bush has seen fit to label as enemies of the state, ie., "domestic/ eco-terrorists" those citizen activists who protest on behalf of social/ environmental issues, human/ animal rights and against oppressive practices of our gov't.
All under the auspices of Homeland Security..yeah, right!
Thanks to the Patriot Act and its little sister/ brother AETA, nevermind the real threat of foreign or domestic terrorists.. our country is imploding from within, under the threat of terrorism, against its own citizens, BY its own citizens, gov't sanctioned!
oldleatherneck, you put on a uniform of this nation and swore an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, not the nation. We have a growing number of people who can't trust Barack Obama because they haven't seen him responded in the same manner John McCain did when the Left challenged his presidential credentials and want to know why. Whether you think this funny or insane makes no difference to me. As long as Barack Obama refuses to settle this matter, a growing number of the American people will not fully trust Barack Obama. That is the real reason Obama's polls are dropping...people are coming to the realization they can't trust Barack Obama as their President, as their leader.
Now I know I am going to get called every name in the book, but it won't change anything. You see, people's first reaction when they first hear that Barack Obama's birth certificate is being challenged is to ask, "Well, why doesn't he simply produce it like John McCain did?"
Until you find an answer to that question, people will never trust Barack Obama as their President.
Oh my dear lord in heaven. anonymous is fucking certifiable.
No sooner does AZ convert from being a troll than we pick up another in the form of an anonymous fox news brainwashed wingnut. Damn!
This is the level of ignorance that's out there... it is a cancer, doc, and even your liberal blog is getting infected now. Hopefully 'anonymous' represents the miniscule fraction of the population at this point. Hopefully.
And hopefully Barack will be slapping some major chemo on their asses in the next few days!!!!
Doc, thank you, I agree with all the words I understood lol.
It may just be me but lately NO part of the MSM seems to be immune to the metastatical spreading of a greater proportion of far right of center reporting; and while I'm all for critical and balanced, the attention the media is paying to these wingnuts as opposed to democrats is really pissing me the hell off.
We all have - or know of – health care horror stories...things that should not have been allowed to happen.
Well, Our elected officials in Congress receive health care mostly paid for by us tax payers, yet repubs and blue dog dems are trying to make it impossible for us to have an affordable plan of our own:
While many of us are struggling to afford medical insurance/medical bills.
While certain Congress people try to stop healthcare reform.
While certain Congress people accept large contributions from lobbyists to prevent health care reform.
Please sign these petitions - and by all means, spread the word! Thank you!

I have an idea. In exchange for rolling over on the Public Option, progressives should propose a stealthy, republicany-sounding plan.
I call it, "The End State Wellfare Act". Sounds really right-wing doesn't it? That's the trick!
Since conservatives won't or can't read the bill, it just has to sound like it sticks it to those welfare queens and imugrints and they'll buy it.
Here's the plan: state-by-state proportional redistribution of tax revenues. It would require the federal government to allocate funds back to the states in same proportion that the states provide them in the form of tax revenue.
That way, the practice of giving konfederate states like Mississippi and Alabama, for instance, two dollars back for every dollar they contribute would come to and end.
States like Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota and New York would be flush with cash. They could dump it out of airplanes, as long as the ground wasn't on fire.
We are seeing actual anarchists actively attempting to destroy our country and the president seems to have deluded himself into believing the people want bipartisonship no matter how insane the opposition.
Hundreds, yes - hundreds, of republican amendments to bills they openly admit they will never vote for!
Attempting to just water down the stimulus and health care to ineffectiveness so dems won't get the credit.
Hoping and praying for a great depression or terrorist attack.
Stirring up the lunatic fringe to violence.
Dems better start buying guns. The right is stocking up and planning on wholesale murder - seriously, just the other day on "the Best Defense" a quote about .22 rifles in case of economic collapse, "Good enough to use while you hunt someone with a more appropriate weapon."
And these maniacs own the press, making the dems cower for fear of being called unamerican or treasonous by traitors, torturers and war criminals like Cheney.
In a left-driven revolution, the military would probably remain neutral for a few days and then join the right. There may be mass desertions along race and geographic lines, but the big guns and systems would remain under control of the right.
The country would fracture and the left would be driven to live in the NE and parts of the west coast. The rest of the country would claim to be the true USA. Given the decline of manufacturing in the NE and west coast, and the geographic equality of the internet, the new US would hold ALL of the power. Righties in the NE and West coast would move south.
They are actively talking about this plan. Witness the secession efforts in Texas.
The right has 300 million guns and billions of rounds of ammo stockpiled for such an event.
Discussion of revolution by the left is exactly what the right wants, so they can claim that they did not shoot first.
Compromising a bit and incrementally changing our system from within is much better. But saying "Bring it on" to a group that is trigger-happy is dumb.
Too bad for them I'm not the gun-control kind of liberal then.
The larger social-political debate must be rebooted, reframed and modernized, the current 25 year old paradigm is obsolete, and is fundamentally incapable of creating sustainable social-economic progress.
There is no intellectual component to our current political debate, everything has been condensed to "conventional wisdom" and strawmen arguments which presupposes previously disproven outcomes, our national interests, are not compatible with the privatization of what should be controlled by the only entity charged in the Constitution to provide for the common defense and public welfare.
Article 1, Section 8
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States."
No other private entity, regardless of any "inside deal-making" has a legitimate expectation to act in the interest of the "general welfare" the great myth is that there the "free market" could even find profitability investing in the general welfare
Well said doc! How these ELECTED republicans "leaders" not only sit back in silence, and allow their dark fringed base to fight their battles... but in ALL of the cases, join in with them... SPEAKS VOLUMES.
The republicans could care less that what they're unleashing within this country; they will have no control over things once the vitriol gets started. They would rather see this country destroyed citizen by citizen, and brick by brick... as long as they think it can get them back into power.
Exactly. The republicans could care less how insane their actions are looking to the rest of us.... as long as they think it can get them back into power.
Power and control is THE ONLY THING the republicans are seeking.
No matter that their policies and agendas have not changed for the last 50 years, even though their policies have basically destroyed this country.
They have no ideas or solutions.... they just want to be IN CHARGE, as they feel that NO ONE ELSE has the right to be in control except their insane GOP party.
True. So they allow the lowest fringes of the party's base to set and control their "agenda".... and direct it at Pres. Obama - personally.
They spend their every waking (and sleeping) hours hoping that at the very least, this will chip away at his popularity.... and THEN, they will control the gavel again....
Their disgusting tactics are WORKING - Obama's most recent popularity poll put him down to 45%
It should go up once he gets his message out again beginning this week on TV. Tomorrow the kids, then wednesday at 8pm EST addressing congress.
I agree 100%, healthcare, education, and national defense are part and parcel with providing for the general wefare and public defense of the United States of America, but
Insurance loan sharks have privatized our national health, the voucher and charter school structure is threatening to privatize our education system, and defense contractors are privatizing national defense, with the amount of our wasted GDP which flows through these blackholes we could pay for healthcare and education, and train the first rate proffessionals to deliver this constitutional right.
Article 1, Section 8
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.
Plutocracy is more of a eminent threat to American that socialism ever was, but if the aforementioned 3 public welfare conditions were to form the basis of National Governance, the national interest would be insulated from the systemic encroachment of corporatism into the general welfare.
Doc's blog is sure inspiring some of us commenters to use big words today.
(I kind of shot my wad with 'inspiring')
One time each week I can propose a hairbrained idea - for entertainment purposes only. For inspiration, I look to Wall Street. This September, all of us with health insurance should agree to visit the doctor's office every day of the month and rack up billions of claims. Then, when the bills start pouring in, we all declare bankruptcy en masse. Now THAT's revolution without a shot fired!
Beat everyone to it... medical bills have already bankrupted me. Not a real good idea, gang. Trust me on this....
This has become a seriously dangerous selfish game the Republicans are playing with our country's future as a democracy. Either they are too stupid to realize it or they just don't care.
It is time an adult takes charge - be it media, someone with just as loud a voice as Limbaugh (or Beck), but we need to bring this game to an end.
It is time.
No more "political correctness".

Time to support a progressive third party .. one with a backbone and not owned by the Wall St bankers and corporate America. After supporting the Democrats for as long as I can remember, I've had enough. Better to support something you believe in than hold your nose and vote for a shadow of the other party. The only way we can get a progressive party moving in this country is have the courage to actively support one. Maybe Russ Feingold or one of the other true progressives in DC can lead it.
Why not revive the Progressive Party from the early 20th Century? It won Congressional seats and electoral votes.
Generally, I do not argue from a "worser between two evils," diametric because that argumentation leaves you open to the "false choice," attack. However when progressives talk of abandoning Barack, forming a third party backing Hillary etc. I IMHO think you doing exactly what the "right," wants you to do - become disolussioned and fractured. TO ALL MY PROGRESSIVES AND LEFT LEANING FRIENDS - you cannot argue, negotiate, placate, and worst of all succumb to CRAZY! There is one viable option as good or as bad as it is - the other is no option at all.
'diametric',
'argumentation',
'disolussioned'???
I know what you're trying to say, but better leave the big words to doc.
Barack Obama - the only black man to ever achieve the highest office - has to worry every fucking night about claims he is a Terrorist, Marxist, Islamist, Corporatist, Elitist, Fascist, Leninist, Socialist, Trotskyist, Defeatist, Apologist, Communist, and on and on...
Ya see everytime these fruitcakes (and they do not know that's what they are) speak, the chances of some harm happening to him increases. Is Barack operating out of fear for his own life (dunno but could you blame him) - I think he is more operating out of the absolutely dismal hand he was dealt.
What do we do - blame him just as the wingnuts do??? ... We need a profile in courage to get behind this brave man instead of tearing him down - and change does not happen over night --- change is .... a progression....
The President has repeatedly stabbed the various parts of his base in the back.
I have no intention of standing up for him when he won't even stand up for himself of the platform he ran on last year. I still have the knife in my back from he betrayed the gay community on the DOMA brief.
He was either a charlatan on the campaign or a wuss in the office. Either are equally bad.
If he doesn't stand up and FIGHT for a public health insurance option then he deserves to see his feckless Presidency go down in flames.
If the Democrats vote for a bill without a public option that mandates we all buy overpriced, unreliable private insurance at extortion level rates under penalty of taxation if we don't, then the Democrat Party deserves to go down in flames well.
I'm not abandoning the President. He abandoned himself and what he ran on last year. He abandoned us first.
There are far more important issues than worry about the reelection of a feckless President.
Are you for real, awake and sing?
Pretty much everyone who uses the phrase "Democrat party" is a Republican.
anonymous has a name now. Still an idiot.
I have to ask if the Obamaniacs are on the same planet. They keep telling themselves that everyone on the left who is disgruntled with the President is somehow a GOP troll. I hope there is nice weather for them as they whistle pass the graveyard.
I may have made a typo, but I am for real. I supported Kucinich in the primaries. I saw Barack Obama as another DLC-to-the-bone Democrat and I have so far been proven correct in abundance.
You may not like the president's incremental approach, you may not agree with his rationale... and I do have many reservations. I sure ain't no "Kool Aid Drinker" - and believe me; I agree with your overall sentiment, but how many national elections have Nader / Kucinich / Mike Malloy / Keith Olbermann won? (Exhibit A)
The question once the winner of the general election became clear was: how do you govern this "hatfield and McCoy" nation? Only in the case of national emergency will there consensus to action ..
Unfortunately we saw our last president use it for "evil," (I will speak in Rethug speak) means. (Bush Exhibit B)
Now, we do have a national emergency - only the Rethugs who want to remain asleep believe that only one room and not the entire house will catch on fire.
awake and sing - can you picture what a McCain / Palin administration would have looked like? (Exhibit C)
No president, nor person for that matter, will not at some point disappoint us.
Barack being a politician should not have been placed on such a high pedistal - having said that, tearing him down I think is completely unwarranted - goodness its been only 8 months...
I am sure you don't want to give fodder for the Becks/Hannity's/Limbaugh's etc. of the world.. I want Mr. Obama to fight like mad, but he needs support.
Otherwise it will be the inmates running this asylum ... feckless president or not.
Other than Sonia Sotomayor, just how has a President Obama administration differed from a McCain administration or a Bush administration for that matter?
The war in Iraq is continuing. Afghanistan is escalating. Gays were backstabbed. Corporations are getting special treatment. Wall Street gets a bailout that Main Street doesn't.
The "eight months" excuse is as lame as empty as the "multidimensional chess" excuse.
No one expected everything to be fixed in eight months. However, that is more than enough time to judge the character or lack thereof of the person in office.
Just how much different has an Obama administration been from a McCain administration or a Bush administration for that matter?
The War in Iraq continues, Afghanistan is escalated, corporate welfare increases, wall street gets a bailout that main street didn't get, gays are thrown under the bus...
The gay community wasn't just "disappointed" by the President. We were actively betrayed by the President with his endorsement of the DOMA brief.
That should have given everyone else a clue how likely he was to stick to any of his other campaign promises like health care.
You changed your 2nd comment to paint yourself as a disillusioned gay man.
You sir, are a fake. Pretending to be a gay democrat isn't fooling anyone.
As doc says, just leave.
Speaking as a real gay democratic man, let me simply say:
GO THE FUCK AWAY!!!
So, umm, what awake and sing? We amend the Constitution and bring back Bush? Not re-electing Obama means a President Palin or Huckabee. No thanks.
I noticed that every single one of your posts trash President Obama.
And, fyi, it's the Democratic Party.
Shut down Fox News and these assholes will eventually peter out.
if only........
How far is far? The dems try to outdo the rethugs and the rethugs try to outdo the dems. One side is outraged when the other side is successful, and yet the parties repeat this ridiculous scenario over and over again.
There was one Republican who simply crossed the aisle - Arlen Specter. Dick Lugar ought to be sought out to speak out.
It all has to do with race. The ultra-conservatives cannot abide a black president of 'their' country, and they have a whole network - Fox - helping them.
Here's a good example of why doc's "Revolution #2009" has been so hard to implement:
A 3000 person pro-health care reform rally in Seattle was not even covered by THE SEATTLE TIMES or any other local media. No finger biting, no crazy ranting, no outrage. I suppose it just wasn't crazy enough to cover.
The MSM has colluded with the political right to help frame the public discourse against health care or anything else President Obama is attempting to accomplish. The ignorance and bigotry of the American people is easy to exploit when news is focused on anger, outrage and fear.
How is it possible, given recent history, that anyone would honestly believe that the Republicans were ready to deal in a bi-partisan manner?
Therefore, Obama is either a con-artist or utterly incompetent.
I wish it wasn't so, but what other conclusion can we draw?
You can suck my big one, troll.
We voted to change Washington, and President Obama is trying to do so. Change is hard when the Reps on the Hill doesn't want change, and are the party of NO.
"It is as though one sports team is playing by the rules while the other is doing every despicable dirty trick in the book. Meanwhile the referee is not calling penalties.
What happens when this occurs is that those who are playing dirty continue the pattern and it escalates. It gets to the point where they are emboldened and increasingly behave in a disgusting manner.
By then, if they are rightfully called on a foul they hit the roof citing unfairness."

I can't believe how far this has gone. How can they carry on stating blatant lies while the so called journalists fail to call them on their ridiculousness.
Doc, your rant is searing, profound, honest, and undeniable -- the alarm is sounding -- we can no longer hit snooze.
Well said.
These rightwing rabid folks would make even Jesus want to get medieval on them. They get away with everything.
I dont consider this situation a joke by any means but this could be easily solved if John Hughes or Amy Heckerling could direct real life. The mean and ruthless dumb jock types always get their comeuppance and all it takes is for some nerd to do an impromptu speech about egalitarianism. Then someone in the gym will start the "slow clap" that turns into loud applause and the mean jocks are humiliated. The end.
I thought that's what we did this last election. I guess we never get to see the part where the mean jocks come back for revenge because the film's usually over after the slow clap.
JUNIOR - I guess you hadn't heard, upon John Hughes' death, that he was a very committed conservative, and in fact stopped making movies and moved his family to the midwest precisely because Hollywood was getting way too leftist for him.
It's sad but true, man.
If the opposition to the Right doesn't step up and make it clear how stupid the Right has gotten, then who knows how far this will go?
It's already mind-boggling to see the willful credulity of those who oppose Obama in believing everything negative about him, no matter how absurd.
If people think this acceptable, then how will they stop buying into every crazy idea out there unless they are made to look foolish for doing so?
"A" and "men," in that order.
As I watch in amazement from my "Commie" perch here in China.......
.....I can only shake my head in bewilderment. My friends ask me "Why" "What the..." and other short questions as to the sorry decaying state that is becoming America.
I look around at a Chinese people..........trying and succeeding in solving many of the cultural and industrial problems. Working to better the nation for their own people. Trying to become better and better to represent what is good on this Earth.
Sure they make many mistakes but continue to progress toward betterment for ALL.
Here, there is hope for the future shared by an entire nation....
......while this grand experiment called the United States of America slowly slides back into the darkness and the mud not unlike many many civilizations that have come and gone throughout history?
I guess the Chinese have 5000 years of experience to learn from and build on?
I guess America has a lot to learn or...........................it might became another mighty nation who tried and went?

The "grand experiment" called America has brought about the greatest civilization EVER.
You would not be typing on a computer if not for American Bill Gates.
You would not have vaccinations if not for Jonas Salk and thousands of other dedicated men and women.
The Chinese make decent noodles.
But use lead paint on toys.
I read somewhere that America wouldn't exist if not for the Chinese invention of gunpowder...(quite helpful in conquering the natives)
Stand back and watch the Chinese make us look like Haiti in the next few years if we don't get our act together.
Yes, The US was once a great nation and could remain so, but greed is taking it the way of every other "used to be great" empire ever on the globe.
To add to doc's Beatles reference, it's time to "get back to where we once belonged".
What the Republicans so desperately want to shout from the rooftops is, "Can't you see he's BLACK!" but they are too cowardly to stand for their true convictions... racism and bigotry and white christian superiority.
Instead they are willing to destroy this democracy and force the middle class in our country into financial ruin in hopes of regaining political and ideological power. Their profound and collective anti-America anger and ignorance is just stunning.
It is also treasonous and it is deadly.
They are crossing lines they can never step back from, and for every line crossed they are energizing citizens such as myself to defend our country from the Republican disease, our cancer within, using any means necessary.
As doc said, "You say you want a revolution? Well, alright."

doc: "...we now have the cultural equivalent of cancer."
Or, another way to put it, herpes. You just have to enjoy it when they are dormant, and put up with them when they are active, and hope they go away sooner than later.
Thank you for putting the anger where it belongs doc - squarely on the shoulders of the Republic cons!
But let's not forget that they are buoyed by their media lackeys, corporate sponsors, and religulous cultist groups like C street. And of course it's all fueled by the four-letter word du jour, r.a.c.e.
What a sorry state we're in. Even in the worst day of Bushco, I never thought I'd see this things happening in my country.
Right on. If the sane ones don't confront the insane ones we are doomed. We need to go to their lairs ( The rightwing blogs and so called news sites like Fox and Newsmax. ) and point out the errors of their ways over and over until they wear themselves out like a child having a tantrum. By not engaging in the name calling and insults they can be beat but if we try to beat them at their own game we may lose.
Hell yeah doc.
"I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it's hell."
-Harry S Truman
Terrific rant today doc, but pitiful and shameful that it had to be written. What is our country coming to? I for one just can't believe it.
Funny, this is what happened in Algeria many decades ago.
Extremists on one side yelled and screamed. So those who thought they were reasonable on the other side decided to yell and scream too. Those in the middle were like "hold on."
But then both extremists sides joined together to attack the moderates for not taking sides.
The media is not helping at all.....they are assisting the GOP, conservatives and these other rethugs along with Fox news anchors O Reiley, Hannity, Beck and others with Limshit....for a terrible outcome that will eventually lead someone to try to murder our president.
The media need to be responsible for their actions, because when something happens you can not take it back, and it will be no room for what ifs and maybes.
It's one thing to to express your opinions, but it's another thing to promote HATE which will lead to VIOLENCE......look at Martin, JFK, Bobby Kennedy, and every other black leader.......they are playing with a deadly gun and someone will eventually fire
If only the Media would stop giving these people air time & saying the rightwing racists' objections are actually real American concerns. The whole world is watching and they make all of us look like complete fools.
I usually don't make a comment unless it is an issue which I am very passionate about...I must say that this is one of those issues.
For the past few days I have like all others been watching, reading and listening to the hoop-la over the speech that President Obama is to make on Tuesday to our school children as well as the one he is to make to the joint session of congress on Wednesday.
I have become more and more appalled at the way our media radio, television and the written press has been handling the events of the times.
Though it may only be me, I find that it is the voice of the negative persuasion that is prevalent in all the reporting.
I have not seen one positive sound byte of a parent taking a stand for the President's speech to the school children on any cable or local broadcast.
Therefore, I will say without further adieu that I am in full support of the schools that my kids and grandkids attend in allowing them to watch and listen to the POTUS give encouragement and instruction to them as the leader of our country.
Though they get it from home and church and from others, I can say honestly that this type of personal attention can never be thought of as anything but cool by our kids of today...
Teabaggers, Birthers, Deathers, Tenthers, and now ---
Schoolers!!
Make it stop
Today's republican party is acting like a bunch of overgrown four-year-olds that are upset because they didn't get their way. Now they're kicking and screaming and throwing temper trantrums over every little thing the POTUS says or does. I think he would have much more success negotiating a health care deal with third graders than he would with this bunch. He should treat the republicans like the spoiled little brats they are and make them go sit in the corner with some crayons and coloring books so they're not disturbing the adults who are trying to get some work done.
Every time I see the likes of Beck, Linbaugh, O'Reilly and their ilk I hear the voice of Joseph Welsh confronting Sen Joseph McCarthy, "Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" I would like to see that quote scrolled across the bottom of the screen every time an elected Republican is on television giving credence to lies like death panels or denouncing a presidential address to school children as "indoctrination".
I am just disgusted and flabbergasted at the almost proud ignorance and hate coming from the right wing. The only conclusion there can be is this is racial hatred and the right wing pundit and politicians are stoking this hatred into an uncontrollable fire in an effort to win back power because they are bereft of ideas.
People are going to get seriously hurt soon, not just a bitten finger but shot by one these nutjobs showing off their loaded guns at a townhall or Teabagging rally.
I'm tired of the mainstream media placating these psychotic bigots. They are not to be taken seriously in any context except as a danger to civil society.
They DO NOT represent a majority of Americans by any stretch of the imagination. It's time our Democratic leadership stood up and fought back. It's time the administration stood up and fought back. It's time our media finally treat these lunatics for what they are and it's waaaaay past time for any respectable Republican (if there are even any left) to stand up to their party and put a stop to it.
Just support the president with your VOTE and he will come thru all this mess with the media, republicans, birthers, deathers, teabaggers, tenthers, and now schoolers.
The World According to Me Bulletin:
JERRY LEWIS STILL DOING TELETHON
BECAUSE NO ONE HAD THE HEART TO
TELL HIM MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY WAS
CURED 15 YEARS AGO
Comic legend Jerry Lewis, 83, is currently televising this weekend’s 44th annual Labor Day telethon to benefit Muscular Dystrophy — because no one has the heart to tell him the dreaded disease was cured fifteen years ago.
Lewis thinks his annual telethon raises tens of millions of dollars every year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association when, in fact, there are no pledges, no Muscular Dystrophy Association, no efforts to find a cure. It’s all a charade to make Jerry think he’s doing something good.
“We tried to tell him about the cure back in ‘93, but it didn’t sink in,” said Noah Swayne, Chairman of the defunct Muscular Dystrophy Association. ”I kept repeating it over and over; I even shook him by the shoulders, but all I got was a blank stare. The doctors decided never to bring it up again because they thought it might kill him.” Swayne shakes his head sadly. “This entire Telethon is a fantasy to make a wonderful man happy. He thinks he’s helping people, and that’s not so bad, is it?”
Mr. Lewis briefly spoke with reporters. “Where’s Ed? Where's Ed?” Lewis continuously screams, referring to his late sidekick, Ed McMahon, who died earlier this summer.
ROTFL sick, but funny as hell
happy labor day folks. i labor as little as possible, personally..
