As the Value Voters Convention packed up and left Washington DC today the Convention & Visitors Bureau was inundated with complaints from hotels and restaurants that the coventioneers had skipped out on their bills.
Hotels and restaurants were not the only complainants. There was similar cries of distress from waitresses and cab drivers across the city.. One waitress told of serving a table of four, two man and two women, and after a $120.00 tab left a tip of a dollar. Another waitress reported that a couple leaving the restaurant had picked up the tips from other tables and pocketed the money.
Several cab drivers of Pakistan and Indian descent told of passengers calling them A-Rabs and leaving the cab without paying while the DC Madam reported that she couldn't supply enough girls for SM & kinky sex to satisfy the demand from the conventioneers and one girl returned saying a customer tried to pay her with a Gideon bible and called her a Jezebel when she refused.
The Washington Post reported that Jerome McNair, a quadriplegic Viet Nam war veteran that for fifteen years has positioned himself outside of The Hilton Hotel asking for donations had his donation box stolen twice right before his eyes. He is the sole support for a family of four. He told the Post that the woman conventioneer had shouted as she stole the box..."Get a job...deadbeat"
The Convention & Visitors Bureau said it was the largest number of complaints ever received for one convention.
As the participants left the closing ceremony singing "Yes...Jesus Loves Me.....there was not a cab in sight at the convention center.

I suggest we deal first with the MSNBC reporter's dilemma covering these assholes. Reminds me of the video of the "ANGRY MOB" shouting down a CNN reporter on doc's previous blog, when he last actually blogged.

IMHO, if a journalist is doing a report live from a scene, they should be allowed to do their work without being shouted down or interrupted.
The reporter was being respectful of his surroundings and was speaking in hushed tones as he gave his report. There was no "disruption" until attendee Linda Putz, created a scene.
When you look at their values they would fit right in with the values of the Taliban. Will America be the next Afghanistan?
Doesn't anybody wonder why the event organizers did not set up a press area for reporters to do their live segments? This looks like DISORGANIZED VALUES VOTERS who set it up this way to make the press look horrible, which fits right in with their "liberal media" LIE!! Supply the reporters an area to report from, Christian Taliban.
We all know what the Value Voters mean by "strict construction of the Constitution." Far different from what the founders meant or as the Courts have interpreted it.

The whole shtick at the conference about pornography turning you gay because it turns your desire inward is straight out of the right wing German playbook circa 1930.
Think Progress had someone videotaping at the Family Research Council's "Values Voters Summit" and they caught Michael Schwartz, the chief of staff for Republican Senator Tom Coburn, saying some bizarre things about homosexuality and pornography. During a panel discussion on "The New Masculinity", Schwartz denounced pornography as a "blight" and a "silent disease" before stating that it causes young boys to become homosexuals.
"Homosexuality is inflicted on people... But all pornography is homosexual pornography because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards. And that in fact is what it does. I know couples now who are struggling with the husband's addiction to pornography. It's a terrible thing. And that's what happens. And, you know, if it doesn't turn you homosexual, it at least renders you less capable of loving your wife. And it's something you need to be healed of."
What is this weird obsession conservatives have with homosexuality. I think they protest too much.
What we really learned from the 'values voters' speakers: they desire hot steamy sex with the same gender after watching their favorite porn selections.
After seeing Jon Stewart's video, I think the speaker at the value summit found the intellectual level of his republican and religious zealot audience - 10 year old boys.

If you want to find "true" Christians, do not look in Christian churches.
Look for the people who are feeding the homeless with no religious strings attached, or the people who already have healthcare but are rallying and marching for universal healthcare, or the liberal religious groups who are flying the rainbow flag in order to invite all people of goodwill into their midst.
Look for groups and individuals who are willing to give aid and comfort to anyone in need without any religious ties.
And if you are truly interested in weakening the power of value(less) voters, try to stop government gifting for religious activities under the guise of religious "initiatives."

Not so long ago, these Theocratic Fascists were ( almost ) in control of our country. Now, they are what they should have been all along: laughingstock. However, everyone must remember that their first priority remains turning the United States into a theocracy.
And that's why we can't just ignore them even if they are in the minority.
Why are these people so fascinated by homosexuality, and why are SO many of them homosexuals? Conflicted between their own drives and the taboos of their Party and Church, they are the most brittle and tense people on the planet.
I've pondered this a lot and have come up with a theory. In certain people who are homosexual (from birth, mind), their environment has taught them that it is wrong, shameful, etc. They deny who they are growing up to the point of seeking to overcompensate for their inner feelings. Some go into the clergy in the hopes of 'defeating' or perhaps overcoming/ignoring these feelings; often they are unable to succeed and you have the scandals. Some go into politics and try to hinder the progress of LGBT people because they are unable to accept their own nature. Had the same boy been born into a supportive environment, he might not have had a need to be either closeted or to 'fight' whatever sad fight he may otherwise wage against an enemy that, in reality, has become his own reflection in the mirror each morning.

I have to take a moment to thank everyone who left a note, sending their sympathy and well wishes on the death of my brother Nick. If you remember I wrote about him a few blogs ago about how he is an NRA member and a Republican--and how proud I was of him for allowing,encouraging his 14 year old daughter to attend the President's inauguration because it was a moment in history, and she had the opportunity to attend.
He was a good man.

I know how hard it is to lose a brother and have some idea of what you're going through, since my own brother passed away last year with an unexpected heart attack. Take it one day at a time. Grief can be hard on the emotions.
