Branchflower Investigation?
James Dobson Legal Offense Fund?
Todd Palin & Co. in Contempt of Senate?
PRICELESS!
Last July 14, Alaskan lawmakers unanimously voted to investigate the abuse of power allegations against Governor Sarah Palin. At the time, the Governor welcomed the chance to clear the air and had directed her staff to cooperate with the investigations.
On August 29, 2008 everything changed. Sarah Palin was picked to be John McCain's running mate. Formerly cooperative witnesses now had to be subpoenaed. They ignored their subpoenas. Was there witness tampering? What was Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg's role?
At 10:09am on February 6, 2009, Senate Resolution #5 passed 16-1. This resolution finds the witnesses who ignored their subpoenas GUILTY OF CONTEMPT of the Alaska State Senate.
There was very little discussion on the floor.
This weekend is the Iron Dog Snowmachine Race. Todd Palin will drive his machine to Nome with a new cloud over his head: Todd Palin is in contempt of the Alaska State Senate.
Here's a video of Senator Hollis French introducing Senate Resolution 5:

Whoo Hoo... Finally sounds like someone in Alaska grew some balls...Way to Go
Well, I was wondering when Alaska was going to hold someone accountable for Mr Palin & Co.'s refusal to testify even when subpoenaed. Since when is someone above the law, especially elected officials who take an oath to uphold and defend our Constitution. Gov. Palin not only is in ethics violation, but obstructed justice and disobeyed the laws she took an oath to uphold and allowed her husband, an unelected official to run the state government by all appearances. She fired anyone who had any expertise to know she didn't know what she was doing and hired high school cronies. She didn't even trust our system of government that she is supposed to govern by to settle a legal dispute with her brother-in-law, attempting to coerce and threaten his boss to get him fired, instead of using the appropriate channels to uphold the law.
I thought he was deposed/questioned under oath during the campaign; hence complied with subpoena.
Mr. Palin and the aides only complied with the second investigation, the Personnel Board investigation (this board was appointed by Ms. Palin, by the way.)
They did not comply with the first investigation which was the bipartisan Senate investigation (for which they were held in contempt).
He's not the only one up there with contempt for the laws.
You betcha'!
They were just following Alaska AG Talis Colberg's lead. He didn't advise them per se to ignore the subpoenas, but "offered them a choice" to answer or ignore, and they chose ignore. They may be guilty of taking bad advice, but he certainly should have known better.
Well, maybe not. Colberg was a law school buddy of Rod Blagojevich.
I certainly hope they do something and really hold him accountable, but at least this is a start.
Now how about all those McCain folks who told the witnesses not to testify - guilty of "witness tampering" perhaps?
yes, my thoughts, too
Exactly. Country first my ass.
When the Alaska Legislature takes Talis Colberg down a notch or two, or holds HIM in contempt, I'll cheer.
However, even a small step towards asserting the rule of law in Alaska is a hopeful sign.
Someone up there realizes that we, the people in the lower 48, are watching and waiting for them to uphold their oaths.
Perhaps they can start by making the position of attorney general one that is obtained by election like most other states instead of appointment by the governor. Sarah Palin hand-picked an AG who is conveniently blind to her & her husband's lack of ethics.
Todd and the wife are pretty contemptible.
I thought you get arrested when you are found in contempt? Where's the orange jumpsuit?
I wonder if they'll start investigating Todd Palin's secessionist ties.
Pretty sad that the US Senate doesn't respect rule of law as much as Alaska, or a lot of Repubes in the Bush administration like Rove would be found in Contempt of Senate.
Seriously ......... there are so many things wrong with this Palin family.
But I'm soooo glad that Grandpa McCaine introduced this bunch to the Real Americans in the country!
You know, i am starting to be glad that she surfaced when she did. Who knows how she would have been received if her handlers had another few years to polish her up and bury her secrets ?
Too late now, thankfully !
They probably don't even know what it means to be in contempt of the Senate.
Does anyone really think the Palins care if either one of them is in contempt?
They live contemptuously of science, humanity, truth, justice, fairness, nature, wildlife etc.
What is the punishment? Only through punishment might these 2 learn something.
Blame it on the wolves. . .
Does this end her presidential run?
I hope not. she is the only sure fire way to bring down the republicans.
I'm guilty of contempt of Todd Palin and his wife.
as punishment for the palins, they should be forced to attend night school classes that teach people like them how to escape from the eighteenth century ...
Contempt for the rule of law?
It seems to be the Palin way.
Sadly there is no punishment attached, so boy, have they showed the "first dud" I mean "dude"...
I'm not sure what "GUILTY OF CONTEMPT of the Alaska State Senate" really means. Is that like contempt of court? A real punishable offense? Good thing they aren't pressing charges against everyone guilty of contempt of the senate in California because pretty much everybody here would be up on charges.
They probably sic a moose on ya.
"It called for no penalties to the 7 witnesses because they were being guided by the Attorney General and they did cooperate with Mr. Branchflower as soon as their lawsuit was thrown out of court."
Some kind of symbolic resolution apparently.
boo!
Teflon Todd!
Another feather in Sister Sarah's cap. I'm sure the Republicans see this as a badge of honor for the Palins, and will typically proudly declare their support for any Repubs ignoring any and all laws.
Well congratulations to the members of the Alaska Senate. They've found their voice and they are not going to put up with being treated as mushrooms.
I applaud you ladies and gentlemen of the Alaska Senate!
Is the Senate not empowered now to issue a warrant and hold Todd? If he's in contempt, he shouldn't be treated special. Frog march him into holding and let him miss his precious sled race. My understanding of contempt is that they lock up ordinary citizens. Send state police to the Governor's mansion and put him in bracelets.
During the campaign Lady Macpalin repeatedly refused to meet with bigwig donors while Todd secretly called them and told them to hold their money for 2012. I know Amway rep couples with more scruples and class.
I love what someone else called her earlier today: Marie Palinette..."let 'em eat Pilot Bread!" (reference to the starving, freezing western Alaska Native villagers "lazy bloggers" helped rescue 3 weeks ago, and one...ONE...Alaska state rep. had to go begging to find transport for the goods he'd collected from folks donating...Palin finally agreed to send one....ONE...planeload).
if she runs for national public office again, her hubbie's criminal record should be an issue (imagine if Michele had been found in contempt by the Illinois senate!)
Indeed.
They have a state senator named Con. What an appropriate name for a politician.
This ia a good thing, but watch and there won't be a bit of coverage on this in the network news or probably much on the cable news. Doc's one of the few reporting on it. Clearly the media protect their owners, the Republicans.
Branchflower Investigation?

Todd Palin & Co. in Contempt of Senate?
PRICELESS!
Awesome, Doc. That will look great in 2012!
Most Republicans wear contempt citations as a badge of honor....I doubt that Todd Palin will be any different.
Todd & Sarah are already guilty of contempt... for the American people.
And in other news, these folks found of contempt will not be punished. Can you believe it? It's true! See the front page...

Everyone, come on up to Alaska! The state senate has set an unfounded precedent! Break the law? Don't worry - there'll be no reprisals!
Great.
Another guilty Republican who will get off free.
Maybe Kelloggs will stop sponsoring his smowmobile team.
LMAO!!!!!!!!
Why would the Alaska state legislature have to pass a resolution stating that anyone ignoring a subpoena would be HELD IN CONTEMPT of the state senate?
Are there any lawyer types on doc's blog who can explain to us laity what the law is regarding subpoenas and why so many politicians seem to be able to ignore them with such impunity?
What point is there for a govt attorney to issue subpoenas when they seem to be so inconsequential?
There is a fundamental difference between a subpoena in law versus a legislative subpoena.
The problem you are talking about arises because a legislature really has no way to directly enforce its subpoena.
It has to go to court to do so.
By contrast, in law one can be served and compelled to come to the court.
The court itself actually has its own little jail for those who refuse to testify (if not protected by Amend V) and are held in contempt.
A witness cannot be compelled to testify against their spouse in a court of law maybe. But you do have to at least SHOW UP. And testify about what you yourself have done and said.
Perhaps Todd has Executive Privilege... That was used by the former President, on more than one occasion... Cheney too.
There is something very weird about those people, the dood and doodette...
agree. something is just really very odd.
guilty? he can't be guilty. he's above the law.
oh gosh now, that's just them palin's bein' mavericks doncha know.
Sarah will just say how pleased she is that they found Todd completely innocent of any wrongdoing!
Absolutely, yup, yup!
That there too also!!!
You betcha!
The only thing these Palins are good at is giving everyone a snow job.
Alaska is Texas, with ice.
Exactly! Lol!
Alaska, what a great place to live above the law. The Palin's are too busy killing wolves from airplanes and hacking off their paws for a $150.00 bounty to take time to answer subpeonas.
Now that he's been found guilty, doesn't that qualify him to run for office? Seems to be the prerequisite these days...
I wonder if Sarah and Todd will blame this on the witches? did the warranty expire on their minister's prayers to protect the Palins from witchcraft?
What on earth are you talking about?
You probably missed seeing Palin and her witch doctor a few months ago, before YouTube pulled the videos of Palin having demons cast out by a Kenyan Witch Hunter. I'm sure they can still be found.
She belongs to a "church" that encourages crazy beliefs and activities. They speak in tongues, believe in possession, have gatherings that look like some kind of Primal Therapy or whatever: writhing en masse on the floor moaning and "speaking" in tongues, etc. Oh, and the Earth is about 6,000 years old.
Palin was counting on the Witch Hunter to "make a way, make a way" for her to ascend to the White House.
Sarah and Todd would probably say now that the witch doctor put a spell on Todd and forced him to not obey the law.
