John McCain's nomination speech was so flat, so disjointed, so utterly devoid of any vision or affirmative plan for the U.S. -- it's hard to say much about it, other than it sucked.
McCain may have ended his speech with a Knute Rockne-like cry for Americans to fight and fight some more -- for what he never really said -- but most of his speech was a snooze, delivered in the tone of a kindly old uncle reminiscing about World War II before fretting about how how those pesky Russians are stirring up trouble again.
His speech was all rhetoric (or as Buffy said, "Bullshit") and as full of lies as Palin's, just more boring, so I was more apt to yawn than get angry.
"My fellow Americans, when I'm President, we're going to embark on the most ambitious national project in decades. We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much." Sounds good, right...but it's pure crap. McCain has no plan to reduce oil imports -- in fact throughout his career he's rejected every plan that might reduce oil imports substantially, including fuel economy standards, biofuels, and renewables. Shit, he even rejected the plan offered by billionaire conservative oilman T. Boone Pickens to aggressively deploy clean energy and alternative fuels over the next ten years!
"We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we'll drill them now." No, we won't drill them now. We might drill these new wells in maybe 10 years, as the U.S. Energy Information Administration expert on offshore drilling explains (see The Cruel Offshore Drilling Hoax - click the following link):

"Senator Obama thinks we can achieve energy independence without more drilling and without more nuclear power." This is such a bold-faced lie that I actually did get a little pissed off. Barack Obama has made quite clear that he supports nuclear power and is open to an "all-of-the-above" compromise that includes drilling.
McCain also said: "We lost their {ie: Americans'} trust when instead of freeing ourselves from a dangerous dependence on foreign oil, both parties and Senator Obama passed another corporate welfare bill for oil companies." McCain is referring to the 2005 Energy Bill which was certainly imperfect, but it contained more clean energy and energy efficiency incentives than any bill in more than a decade, so of course McCain opposed it. Ironically, it also contained more nuclear energy incentives than any bill in more than a decade -- and yet McCain opposed it and keeps claiming that those who voted for that bill don't support nuclear power. Uhhhh...WTF?!?!
According to McCain, "We need to change the way government does almost everything: from the way we protect our security to the way we compete in the world economy; from the way we respond to disasters to the way we fuel our transportation network; from the way we train our workers to the way we educate our children." Listening to McCain, you'd think it was the Democrats who occupied the White House the last seven-plus years and it was time to throw the bastards out. Sheesh!
Hell, McCain's speech was so boring that I'm boring myself and probably you by just blogging about it, so hey.....c'ya in tomorrow's blog (there'll be a funny pic. Promise!).

I have respect for the "war hero" John M.
I have a question for America though. When the other hero's of 'Nam came home why were they treated so poorly by this country? What exactly did we "win" in that war? Why is it that now after all this time we are hearing so much about one person's valor in that war when other vets of that war have been so ignored for so many years?
Speaking of wars--how will we know when we've "won" the war we're in right now? We judged "winning" by the number of hills taken in one day and the biggest body count on any given day in 'Nam. Perhaps we will evaluate the winning in Iraq by the number of limbs lost or the number of young bodies being blown to bits.We went into the wrong country for the wrong reasons--let's stop the madness.Now I said I have respect for the war hero John M. Not so much for the political John M however. He said nothing, nada,zero in last night's speech.As for his running mate-well that's just am scary choice.

The "noun, verb, P.O.W., sleeping pill" speech of McCain was given with the ironic backdrop of clueless G.O.P operatives screwing up an attempt to show the REAL WALTER REED HOSPITAL.
As is so often the case during the Bush reign, the symbolism exceeds the conceits of the most fantastic fiction.
They don't know about computers, or Google, or the internet, but they're telling us to "catch up to history." They preach about P.O.W.'s, but they don't know, or don't bother too long to find out, what Walter Reed Hospital looks like.
