Impressed by his speech at the University of Arizona the other night, the Fox News Channel today took the extraordinary step of naming President Barack Obama an honorary American.
"Let's face it, he's earned it," said Fox host Glenn Beck. "I don't care where he came from, he's one of us now."
Naming President Obama an honorary American was only one of a series of conciliatory moves made today by what promises to be a kinder, gentler Fox News.
A network spokesman said that starting this week, Fox would air one minute of civil discourse every Sunday at 4 AM..

There was some very strange (even for Fox) commentary on Fox as the president was speaking. I just caught a minute, and it was a voice-over with the video of the prez, but it sounded like Krauthammer.
Whoever it was, he was analyzing and critiquing the crowd reactions to the speech. After the initial grieving and shock, there was naturally some cheering for the heroes, and for Obama's positive comments, which the Fox babbler found mystifying.
These hacks will just use any avenue they can to try to drag down Barack Obama.

President Obama is a deeply, critical thinker who is very sincerely against doing anything for political theater; therefore contrary to Glen Beck's thinking, the President was not in the least bit worried about the timing of the speech - the content of the speech was of much more importance for him.
President Obama is a dignified gentleman who has sincere and genuine concern for the welfare of ALL Americans. Our President has NEVER deviated from being a deeply compassionate, decent, tolerant, kind, inclusive, humble and humane gentleman - he has been a wonderful leader and a great unifier.......and for that I thank him wholeheartedly!
Hence, he understood the importance of getting the tone of this speech right; he knew Americans were hurting along with all who were affected by this terrible, unavoidable tragedy, and he was highly aware that he had a wonderful opportunity to reach out to the better angels in all of us with this speech - therefore in the end the CONTENT was of GREATER importance, than the time it took to give this speech!

What a fool Beck is. The president, like the rest of us, was shocked at what happened last Saturday morning. A horrific event like this takes time to process in order to make sense of it. President Obama had to focus on just the right words to say in order to bring comfort to the families and victims of this horrible attack as well as the nation. The president took the time needed to reflect on the situation and formulate a proper response. The speech he wrote and delivered far exceeded anything anyone on the right or perhaps the left is capable of. We are lucky to have president Obama as our commander-in-chief but clowns like Beck will never get it.

Perhaps because you listen to more conservatives... incidental evidence means nothing - particularly when the facts are that the right wing has engaged, ceaselessly, in promoting, through its imagery and words, armed revolt against the lawfully elected government.
Beck said Obama should have done it sooner, which was a stupid point. Obama put out a comment on the day of the shooting, and he was invited to speak at the event by the University's President, an event which must have taken considerable time and effort to organize.
How could he give a speech at an event before it even exists?

The president is not perfect, but he is a vast improvement over the deregulating policies of the previous administration, which set us on the course for near depression. I am a Canadian, however I did live in the US as a child and my brother is a Teacher in Baltimore so I have always had a special bond with the US. I follow the politics avidly and probably know as much about the US as I do about Canada.
When I watched President Obama give that speech in Tuscon I was mesmirized. Not so much by his words [although they were brilliant] but rather his "presence". I don't think many in the US realize or appreciate just how wonderful this man is. He is intelligent beyond words, he has just the right amount of "swagger", he is caring, compassionate, composed and calming. He has withstood more than any American President has ever had to withstand from his own citizens. He has been libeled, been the victim of racist slurs and a myriad of other racist actions by the right. His religion and even his birthplace has been questioned even by those in the Congress.!!
He has brought the country through an unbelieveably difficult period and continues to look for ways to improve the lives of those he represents.
A man like this comes along maybe once in a generation if that. He is a natural leader not only in the US but on the world stage.

The speech was perfect because of not only what was said but when it was said. People need time to mourn before they can celebrate life. The same speech on day one would have been MUCH to soon.
It is one of the best he has ever given. His speech to the Convention in 2004; his Nomination speech in 2008, his speech on race, and several more are also great speeches. But thanks, Beck, for taking a minute out of the crazies to acknowledge the President positively for once.

Complain about his timing, if you must, but speaking earlier would have been seen by Mr. Beck as Obama barging into a national tragedy while the victims, their families and friends, medics, and the nation were traumatized or in the midst of triage.

He's on thin ice - he has stated on his show what the spike in the gold price is a phenomenon unique to the dollar, as if to say that other currencies aren't experiencing a decline in value as expressed by gold. It's totally false. If you look at the chart of other major currencies translated into gold over the past 5-10 years, come have a steeper curve.
An unsophisticated investor will be out there buying bullion, or worse - numismatics (which they will usually pitch to anyone that wants to buy gold).

But with old coinage there are additional costs due to the historical value. 'Historical value' is in no way a function of currency troubles, if anything it would be negatively correlated with them since people care less about historical value of coins as currencies collapse as, well, the actual fucking GOLD they are made out of.

My parents are Fox News viewers, and I try to have rational political discussions with them as I lean more left to center than I used to. Just the other night, every time a key point like Net Neutrality was brought up, there was a tirade of 'liberals (insert derogatory statement here)' and 'conservatives are better at (anything you wish here)'.
Every single time. I'm afraid my parents are lost in the post-Reagan era mindset, and there is no saving them from fervent implanted rhetoric.
We truly are living in a Huxley-Orwell nightmare of sorts, and it bothers the hell out of me.

Because Fox went out a few years ago and signed deals with satellite and cable providers to include FNC as part of the very, very basic "business" subscriptions. CNN and MSNBC lagged, so for most providers you have to upgrade to a higher cost plan to get them included.
It's not so much a conspiracy as Fox's willingness to take less money to broadcast their channel than the other two will.

Talking points from one of Fox's opinions shows are parroted in the "news" shows as "Some people are saying..." and then repeated on every other network. Pretty soon, one of their dipshit commentators has got everyone asking some stupid question like "Is Barack Obama capable of handling an asteroid headed towards Earth?"

Obama's approval ratings have been going up a point a day according to Gallup. Palin is no longer ever going to considered for a Presidential run. People like Rush and Beck can say whatever they want but it's pretty obvious what consensus America is coming to.

I can't believe that I listened to him in college in the early 90's. What bothers me more is that I once agreed with him. Be nice to me, I am not that same person.
