NEW YORK -- The publishing world was stunned today when Sarah Palin walked out of the recording studio in the midst of narrating the audio version of her latest book, America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag, after only the first two chapters.
"Sarah's really super sorry," said Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton. "The Governor is very busy with, well, things -- her family, her totally-not-at-all running for 2012, fear-mongering on a global scale, the Rapture -- you know, Neo-Con stuff. But I do know the Governor plans to send homemade apology cookies to the fine, hard-working Americans at HarperCollins asap."
"What the fuck is her problem?" HarperCollins said in a statement yesterday. "It's not like we expected anything massive from her -- but you'd think even talking about herself for a shitload of money might hold her Narcissistic attention span longer than the Alaskan governorship or college ever did. Can't this woman finish a single goddamn thing?"
Two years ago, an unknown Palin stepped onto the national stage alongside Republican presidential candidate John McCain and showed America that, like herpes, she wasn't going anywhere. While the majority of Americans holding passports and diplomas waited suspiciously for the punchline, to many Americans, it was love at first wink.
HarperCollins saw gold.
"We said to ourselves, 'Now here is a woman with a lot of stupid fucking followers,'" said media director Robert Brennan of Harper Audio. "We knew we had to be creative because we were going after a huge segment of the population that doesn't traditionally read much past 'Improved Buttery Flavor!' I mean, come on; how many of them even read that Good Book they're always throwing at people? But then we had the bright idea: Audio books! Now millions of Americans could enjoy every saccharine-sweet, value-laden talking point from the serial drop-out Governor's latest publication--right in the comfort of their Ford F-350s."
It seemed a match made in heaven (King James version), until Palin, once again, went rogue.
"Geez u guys," Palin commented from behind the protective safety glass of her Facebook page to avoid the possibility of any follow-up questions. "i dont know y ppl r gettin so bent outta shape about this." Facebook ironically does not impose any character restrictions on its users. "i think regular americans can understand y ive done what i did. its about goin 4 the ball when u c it. givin 110%. theres no i in usa, ppl, cuz im a mom and just a regular main street american concerned 4 my country n the economy n stoppin terrorism ;)"
Palin was correct about her understanding followers.
"That poor dear is just working so hard for our country, they really ought'n let her be," said Lurlene Meyers of Manhattan, Kansas; an unemployed mother of six with no skill-sets, nobly referred to by her Pro-Family community as a stay-at-home-wife-and-mom. "Between having that Muslim in the White House and all of them in Warshington turning my Medicare into some government-run healthcare program, well, I just think it's so refreshing to have a capable woman like that Sarah Palin clearing a landing strip for Jesus."
HarperCollins says they're in negotiations with Tina Fey, who they hope can help them meet their anticipated release date.In other news, Palin says North Korea is America's ally, then she responds to her "our ally North Korea" gaffe. Does she: A) apologize for the mix up? B) point out that it was obvious what she really meant, or C) post a list of every gaffe or slip of the tongue Obama's ever made

Geez, doc. Take a vacation from your blog or what? Glad you're back, and in rare form.
I was about to give up on you, no blog all November, but it's Dec. 1 and I'm glad you're back.
Funny, too. We can always count on Palin for comedy gold.
Welcome back, doc. Don't be a stranger.
Here's the thing Mrs. Palin: Everyone pretty much recognizes that the mistakes that Obama and Biden made were just gaffes or misstatements due to being on the campaign trail for a long time.
That is why those stories were not newsworthy for the legitimate news outlets.
In your case, however, what you said is worth reporting because everyone thinks that there is a distinct possibility that you actually believe that we are aligned with North Korea.
LOL. Too true, oh wise one :)
In the words of another vacuous dingbat named Bristol `Take your prom-hair back home!'.
Just be glad she read the notes on the correct hand, or else we might have discovered we were allied with Milk, eggs, bread, and dishwasher detergent.
(responding to your link, doc, because your blog was fake satire, right? Tell me it's not real!)
It wouldn't surprise me if it was real. Totally in character for Palin.
WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN, DOC?!
I'VE HAD SERIOUS COMEDY WITHDRAWALS SINCE THE REPUBS WON ALL THE ELECTIONS AND I REALLY NEEDED YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR TO GET THRU IT!!
No, honestly I'm glad you're OK. It might take a while for this blog to hit 200 comments though - hope everyone hasn't given up!!!
And let's not forget the REST of the scintillating comment. That we have to stand with our North Korean allies, but she is troubled by the response by the White House. She wanted to make a pithy attack of opportunity to be snide at the response that the fella in the Big Chair was making--while her own involvement in much of anything has been trying to console her daughter on losing a dance competition, and trying to keep one of her middle daughters from going to jail--while commenting on the parenting skills of the First Lady no less. And drawing down commentary on things like the Presidential Council on Fitness which Eisenhower commissioned, as being "too socialist."
She is supposedly a journalism grad. You'd think that she'd be better at making raking asides than this. A professional generally has some acumen in their field, and she can't even see the minefields that she's wandering into.
Yes, let's attack the President for not coming out with a public response to a tense situation in Korea, as being not decisive enough--despite a carrier being deployed. Yes, let's complain about the First Lady wanting kids to be fit--like Arnold Schwarzenegger was employed to do by a previous Administration. What's next? That Obama's tax policy is too Reagany?
It's already getting deep when you have folks like Limbaugh and Stossel taking the time to post up nearly identical opinions on the terrible myth of the socialist nature of Thanksgiving--as opposed to wishing folks a good one. I can't wait for the attack on the Santa Claus coming next for giving presents away instead of making kids boot strap their ways up chimneys to earn them.
The McCain campaign workers who were assigned to prepare and polish her for interviews, even specifically stated that she had practically no grasp of the Korean War, and couldn't explain why there was a North and South Korea.
Welcome back, doc :)
This is the type of response that you'd expect from your 6th grade niece on her facebook page...
I expected nothing less from Palin
I figured she'd just blame the left-wing media and go about her merry way.
She's like a 5 year old. This is exactly fitting her personality.
Damn, doc. This is your blog, and you can post as often or as little as you want, but damn, doc. Anyways, hope you and Buffy are well and that you had a happy Thanksgiving. In all fairness, there hasn't been much going on in the news since the elections worthy of your satire, until now I suppose. But - damn, doc. We all clearly have missed your brilliant take on things.
I'm sorry, Sarah Palin, you fucking coont, but is President Obama going around making fun of your gaffes? Why in fuck's name would you react to people making fun of your gaffe, by pointing out the President's? YOU ARE NOT IN HIS LEAGUE YOU FUCKING NUISANCE.
Go home and try to be a mother to your kids, who are quickly turning into fucking train wrecks, you stupid bitch.
dianhow:
I can only guess that Bristol's ChaCha did not get your vote. LOL
The scary thing isn't the things she says accidentally. It's the things she says meaningfully.
"Go home and try to be a mother to your kids, who are quickly turning into fucking train wrecks, you stupid bitch."
But but but that sounds like it would be hard work.
How dare you ask the self-proclaimed "Mama Grizzly" to practice what she preaches!!
I'm sorry, but am I to believe that Sarah Palin, a woman who would be president, reacted to this issue with "I know you are, but what am I"?
Someone somewhere called her "the Kim Kardashian of politics."
KK should be offended.
I think each and every night TV comediennes kneel at the end of their beds, clap their hands together and pray:
"Oh sweet and merciful Lord, we thought that with the 8 years of Bush You could not bring us anything more giving, then You brought us Palin, You are too kind to us."
Wow, those Grizzly Moms really do have a thin skin, don't they? She might want to find a soothing salve to rub on that butt hurt of hers.
Doc: I LMAO all through your blog, then read about what Palin REALLY did. Still can't decide which is funnier. Kidding. Your satire is funnier.
'The scary thing isn't the things she says accidentally. It's the things she says meaningfully.'
Yes.
Also, the content of her comments before and after her slip-up show that she has no grasp of the situation or ability to formulate a meaningful thought on the matter.
North Korea, I mean, c'mon. Bush talked about the axis of evil. He listed only three countries in it, and that was one of them. They're in the news every six months or so when Kim Jong goes and does something else crazy like recently.
This woman wants to be president, and she keeps screwing up things like this.
So how long until you US voters realize you are basically turning into a reality TV show for the rest of the planet.
Implying that we haven't already.
My favorite peeve is hearing the blowhards screech "Well, FUCK the rest of the planet, they have no RIGHT to criticize us."
It began with Dan Quayle, and we joked he was dumb, and he kept helping the cause. Then we had GW Bush and it was like deja vu, except dumber, and scarier but the shock of it was less because of Quayle. Then came Palin and there was no shock value left, just a dull outrage fading into a resigned despair.
Christ. I try my damndest not to hate Palin (not because I agree with her about anything - hahaha, no - but because abject stupidity is a fairly common trait in politicians), but this goes way beyond stupid. This may well be a new record in going full retard.
Never go full retard.
I guess she's directionally challenged. Someone should ask her who won the American Civil War.
I can just picture President Palin responding to a crisis with North Korea and her official response is "I know you are but what am I!"
Welcome back, doc. Missed ya.
Across the years, I've run into a number of people who wear their ignorance and their vindictiveness like badges of honor.
Until Palin came along, I had no idea that that this constituency is as big as it appears to be.
I just checked out Palin's Facebook page... And threw up in my mouth a little...
from the article: "Beck corrected Palin's mistake moments later and Palin went on to identify South Korea correctly."
Sounds like some kind of remedial geopolitics oral exam. That's right, celebrate ignorance!!
Narcissists are never wrong. You will never see a narcissist graciously acknowledge a mistake. He/she will blame anyone and everyone but themselves. Palin has never wavered from textbook narcissism and never will. She's like a mini Hitler. If she had enough power she would be executing those to dared to challenge or denigrate her in even the slightest way.
Well when Bush made a gaffe he laughed it off, poked fun at himself and let it go. Obama makes a gaffe he acknowledges it, makes the correction and lets it go. What's Palin's response to making a gaffe? She blames everybody except for herself, makes a list of Obama's gaffes then criticizes his gaffes. Now I would expect that from a cast member of the Kardashians or Jersey Shore but not from a presidential candidate.
Sarah Palin has consistently demonstrated an ignorance of the world at large and a lack of personal responsibility that is appalling. She refuses to participate in anything approaching a debate on policy, and cries "Bias!" whenever there is a whiff of criticism.
Only a complete fucking moron like Palin could gripe in one breath that the media never covers the mistakes of her opponents, while linking to press videos of 44 such mistakes by Obama in the next. I would honestly be surprised if this attention whore is capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.
It's funny because Obama didn't say anything at all about Palin's Best Korea mixup. She's just attacking the wrong person... Like Republicans seem to always do.
She's attacking him because she sees him as her competition in the next presidential election. Like the GOP would ever nominate her.
She can't even complain about the attention her gaffes get without making a gaffe.
Nice to see she has turned her FaceBook site into a shrine to her own misguided, paranoid whininess. That's what I look for in a President!
Run back to reality TV where your genetic stock belongs, Sarah.
Sarah Palin is the most immature person in American politics today. That's what we need -- a TEENAGER in the White House. It is unreal how little respect she has for American politics and the office of President.
But... but... She's a beauty queen! She WAS somebody! People paid attention to her! She... was.. a... QUEEN!!!
Sarah Palin is the Joan Rivers of politics. Nothing more.
nah, joan rivers has a daughter that she whores out for additional relevance. sarah palin would never do that.
Why does this surprise anyone? Palin has a long history of being a catty bitch who lashes out when she doesn't get her own way or is made to look stupid.
by whom?
- Um, herself?
- I swear, she's a walking Democratic campaign commercial...
Doc, you apparently didn't stay away from blogging long enough to shake awake and sing. Fuck.
The entire speech was just meaningless blathering. If Beck hadn't corrected her, she would've gone on about how we need to bomb South Korea or some other nonsense. She's not thinking when she speaks, it's just a vomit of memorized talking points.
made to look stupid.
by whom?
Anyone who asks a difficult question like what newspapers do you read?
She still won't admit that "refudiate" was a mistake. She has a back-log of about 50 or so retarded comments to "fix" before she can even start on the 2010 set.
"Oil of coal, of course, is a fungible commodity and they don't flag, ya know, the molecules where, where it's going to, where it's not, but and in the, in the sense of the Congress today they know our very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So I believe that what Congress is going to do also is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it's Americans who get stuck holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here; it's gotta flow into our domestic markets first."
Dear Palin and Company - please go eat a shit sandwich.
We're tired of your petty idiotic statements.
It's time to let the adults have adult time.
She also just responded to her daughter's little f@ggot/gay online tirade with a bunch of lies -- claiming it was in response to someone "saying very very hateful things about the family" (NOT TRUE) and "about her little brother Trig" (ALSO NOT TRUE!). Nothing she says is the honest truth, and she and her family are never wrong about anything.
She comes across as someone who crammed the material the night before and it comes out in a muddle - She doesn't have a real understanding of it, like someone who has studied and read about the topic in depth - instead, it looks like she tried to memorize it all as best she could. There is no deep, nuanced understanding of a complicated situation there - it sounds like she read the wikipedia pages on North and South Korea and the Korean war 10 times the night before the interview, and desperately tried to come up with memory joggers to help her remember which was which, like someone who was facing a final exam for a class they hadn't attended all semester. THAT's the problem - well, that and the hubris of this woman to think she is qualified to comment on these things AT ALL.
Part of what makes Palin such a childish moron is her obsession with responding defensively to EVERYTHING. It's something that an immature and insecure kid would do, not someone expecting to be taken seriously as a statesman.
And we know she can ignore things, considering she never released her medical records to put her ridiculous Trig birth story to rest.
Narcissistic personality disorder
A person with narcissistic personality disorder:
* Reacts to criticism with rage, shame, or humiliation
* Takes advantage of other people to achieve his or her own goals
* Has feelings of self-importance
* Exaggerates achievements and talents
* Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence, or ideal love
* Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment
* Requires constant attention and admiration
* Disregards the feelings of others, lacks empathy
* Has obsessive self-interest
* Pursues mainly selfish goals
When my daughter was 10 years old, she used the "Johnny did it too" defense. Didn't work then, doesn't work now.
Sarah Palin is dumb as hell, maybe even intentionally. The people who support her are scary to me, and there is no one analogous to her on the left.
The left has its loons. The difference is they are not embraced; they are ignored or castigated. The right seems to love their unstable component.
Ok, Sarah. This is how mature people respond: "Oops, I misspoke."
"It's too bad the only people who really know how to run the country are too busy cutting hair and driving taxi cabs."
- George Burns (God)
"What magazines do you read?" - Uhhhh...
"Besides Roe v. Wade, what other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?" - Uhhhh...
YEAH, she's potentially dumb enough to have confused North and South Korea. Absolutely.
Great blog doc - been checking once a week, so I'm late posting.
Sarah Palin is trouble for true Republicans. Like Barbara Bush said, they wish she would go back to Alaska and stay. Couple that with the Tea Party and the Republicans have a real problem on their hands. They were quick to court the Tea Partiers, but they may regret that decision sooner rather than later.
If she really wants to make some major change, she ought to get behind the scenes and become a king maker.
That's worked out splendidly so far. Were there any candidates in the mid-terms that she got behind that didn't crash and burn? I mean, her hand-picked candidate for Alaska lost to a write-in candidate, the first time in about 50 years. O'Donnell cost the Reps a seat in Delaware, while Angle is apparently the only person outside of Hell that could possibly lose to Reid. Palin road the coat-tails of a Koch-brothers-fueled movement that cost the Reps the Senate when it was theirs to lose.
She was plucked from obscurity as a do-nothing governor of a politically unimportant state, already in well over her head, and made up to look like an important political figure. She has since treated her gifted political clout the way a meth addict treats a job at Walgreens, and the longer Republicans hitch their wagon to her, hoping that at some point her flailing will finally migrate in a direction that helps them, the longer they feed her addiction and strengthen her resolve to not go quietly into that good night.
Rove saw it coming, and did what he could to stop it. Now the disease has latched on, and the Reps are going to have to ride it out and hope they survive.
They know they're in a very deep hole, but digging faster is the only response that occurs to them.
It's not the gaff or act of misspeaking that's really the issue -- it's her response. She didn't just say, "Oops, what I meant was ..." or do anything with any dignity or even semblance of rationality: She said "The media are unfair! They never attack Obama this way for his gaffs!" and then posted a bunch of links to the media attacking Obama for his gaffs as evidence.
That reeks of lack of personal responsibility, arrogance, stupidity (posting evidence that directly contradicts the claim she's using it as evidence of), and immaturity.
Anybody can misspeak, but it takes a totally arrogant, ignorant, immature character to react to it in the way she did.
I'm not going to pretend that other politicians (including Dems) don't make mistake-filled speeches, but this is ridiculous. This lady essentially acted like a fucking teenager when called out for a mistake. She's demonstrating the maturity of a 15 year-old.
And this, THIS is the lady that so many thousands of people actually feel is qualified to lead the entire country. Sends a shiver up your spine, no?
awake and sing: If you don't care for the President or his policies, that's fine. I disagree with you but I can respect it. However, if you're enough of a nitwit to think this half-wit should ever step foot into the oval office, if you believe Palin has the mental capacity to handle being the leader of the free world when she so clearly does not and cannot grasp the most simple aspects of US foreign and domestic policy.... Well, then all I can say is you are clearly an ass-clown who should never cast a ballot for anything beyond prom queen.
Good thing the economy is going great, the housing market and employment is awesome, and there are no foreign issues to deal with. We should certainly be VERY worried about this.
Embarrassing for you, isn't she.
Someone needs to ask Palin what she thinks of women's suffrage. I suspect the answer could be epic.
Someone needs to ask Palin what she thinks of women's suffrage. I suspect the answer could be epic.
Her ans: Suffering makes you STRONGER.
Palin said "Obviously, we gotta stand with our North Korean allies...[Glenn Beck corrects her]...and we're also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes."
If she had just said "North Korean allies" and never corrected herself, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. That's a simple North/South slip up. But Glenn Beck corrected her, and in response she said we "also" have to stand by South Korea. If she were clear on which was which, why didn't she say something like "Sorry, did I say North? I meant South"?
"Between having that Muslim in the White House and all of them in Warshington turning my Medicare into some government-run healthcare program, well, I just think it's so refreshing to have a capable woman like that Sarah Palin clearing a landing strip for Jesus."
ROTFLMAO!!!
Welcome back, doc! Love your satire almost as much as I hate Sarah Palin and her followers.
Who cares if she glubs lines, at least she's still better than the lying scumbag incompetent in office right now.
And how does one glub a line?
I really, really, don't want to know.
Bush didn't teach her how to handle her coke?
Awake and sing --
Actual conservative posting his real opinion?
Or douchebag trolling for attention?
Impossible to tell the difference, because actual conservative views are so naturally idiotic.
I would rather our projection to the world be that we're smart enough to elect leaders who stand out and set themselves apart from the common man, not someone whose only asset is that they can connect with backwoods people. This woman exploits the hell out of this, it's scary that we as a nation have even allowed her to get this far.
I've found some classic Palin whargarbl from a couple of years ago - which, to me, looks like she had no idea what she was talking about back then and certainly doesn't negate the notion that she is still clueless:
Speaking to reporters in Altoona, Pa., Palin said: "[Secretary of State] Condoleezza Rice, of course, having worked on this strategy for quite some time, I have faith in her that they're making this wise decision and North Korea, of course, better live up to its end of the bargain there, in speaking with the other countries whom they've been working with, in promising the verification. That end of the bargain has got to be lived up to."
I never expected to see a politician who was dim enough to make G.W. Bush look brilliant.
Congrats Sarah. You've earned it.
I'm just glad that she didn't say that it was the West Koreans that we were allied with.
West Koreans are a bunch of friggin prima donnas.
She can see North Korea from her house.
I would like someone to say "What do you think are the repercussions to global trade if North Korea falls?" just to see what she says.
She'd fumble it completely, and then run off to Facebook to complain about being ambushed by the drive-by lamestream media.
She'd say, "All of them."
This is not a gaffe. She has no idea which Korea is the friendly one.
If she had said "we have to stand with our South Korean allies" and someone had said "North Korean," I've no doubt she would have corrected herself and said "North Korean."
Doc's back. YAY!
Palin's ignorant. YAY!
Comedy gold...
'I would like someone to say "What do you think are the repercussions to global trade if North Korea falls?" just to see what she says.'
"How can it fall? You mean sink into the ocean? I read all kinds of gravity books."
'I'm just glad that she didn't say that it was the West Koreans that we were allied with.
West Koreans are a bunch of friggin prima donnas.' - semisarcastic
We have always been at war with East Korea.
I would like someone to ask her: "What are the possible scenarios of this latest action? How will China, Russia, and South Korea react? How should the United States react if South Korean and China request different options?"
If you asked Joe Biden this, he would think for a few seconds and come up with some really plausible scenarios that show that he knows the players involved, and can anticipate the problems or solutions that different scenarios would create.
But he wouldn't wink at you, so vote Republican?
Just keep giving her rope.......
I would like someone to ask her: "What are the possible scenarios of this latest action? How will China, Russia, and South Korea react? How should the United States react if South Korean and China request different options?" -- hawkrew
"In what respect, Charlie."
Heh heh.
She just read the wrong hand, is all.
There was a game show on today where a woman claimed Virginia shared most of its southern border with West Virginia.
Was the woman a probable candidate for POTUS in 2012?
Wasn't Ohio formerly called "North Virginia?"
She doesn't do well with any geography questions. This is a woman who thought Africa was a country and Montreal was in France.
You want to have some real fun, ask her to find either one of them on a map. Hell, you could probably point out South Korea for her and she still wouldn't be able to find North.
Thank you Doc for this hilarious blog and to all previous commenters for their witty comments.
I was seriously depressed after the Nov. elections and have been checking my bookmark for The World According To ME daily to lift my spirits. Success at last! :-)
Brilliant. Let us stand with our strong North Korean allies, and the brave Chinese who stand with her. Let us be a beacon of hope for Communism and the power of the people.
It is sad that Obama won't support our brave Communist brethren and sistren against the capitalist pigs. How far the Islamo-socialist has fallen...
From John Heilemann & Mark Halperin's "Game Change":
She knew nothing. She had to be taken through World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and Palin was not aware there was a difference between North and South Korea. She continued to insist that Iraq was behind 9/11; and when her son was being sent off to Iraq, she couldn't describe who we were fighting.
I knew that twit was a secret commie.
The most disturbing thing about Palin is NOT her voice, but how she truly views herself as a hero to the common man. The title of her book, "Going Rogue" says it all.
There is a depressing component to this and it's a bit scary. There are thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of Americans (millions?) who agree with her ABOUT her.
If Bristol Palin had won DWTS (only made it as far as she did thanks to teaparty voters) none of them would have shown the slightest shame in the message it sent of "you can be rewarded for things that you have no business being rewarded for."
Palin not only embraces this attitude, she fosters it, she propels it, and it could very well, in a country as stupid as this, push her into the White House.
And then things like her ignorance of the world as a whole are not so fucking cute and down-homey.
It wasn't her error, it was her grade-school playground/strawman/apples-oranges response to the criticism that spoke volumes about her lack of maturity/intelligence/readiness for the bigtime.
Bizarro Sarah Palin would say, "Yes, I do know who we're aligned with but I made a mistake on live radio my saying 'North' instead of 'South.' I won't make that error again. Now let's unite as a nation and address the problem of North Korean aggression in a sane and practical manner."
Actual Sarah Palin says, "Stop picking on me with your liberal bias!"
NORMAL Americans identify with her, not with you.
Normal Americans also think fast food is good for them.
Doesn't make them correct in either case.
The more you make fun of her intelligence, the more support she gets. How is this getting past the "I'm so smart and she's so dumb" contingency out there?
her popularity goes down, not up, over time. even the conservatives who want to like her because she is white and non-urban just like All Real Americans[tm], slowly abandon her as they realize the depth of how nuts she is.
so no, being attacked doesn't make her stronger. it just makes her few remaining supporters more nuts.
yeah, awake and sing, I'm terrified of someone who quits halfway through a term as governor of the least-populated state. I'm terrified of someone who can't name a single newspaper she reads. I'm horrified by a king-maker whose chosen candidate loses an election to write in votes in the king-maker's home state. I petrified by a family-values candidate whose own daughter can't refrain from the horizontal bop, because that shows how effective her leadership is.
A new poll shows her approval rating at 22%, her disapproval rating at 48%, so if you want to make a claim about "normal" Americans, you might want to rethink that. Are only 22% of Americans normal, in your book? If so, your book may need a revised edition.
Sarah Palin's not going to president, because she's very ineffective at responding to her critics. Bush and Obama are good at this, Reagan was better. Palin's just terrible. When she says something that's provably false, she further commits herself to her error - remember the WSJ bit about how "grocery prices had increased?" Most politicians will spin facts when they don't agree with a stated worldview, but you can't just wish them away. Palin appeals to a lot of people because she lets them pretend that the world works the way they say it does, just because it lets them sleep at night. Nevermind reality!
She needs a teleprompter. I wonder who can spare one.
Y'know, this was on the fucking radio. She could've had printed notes that she was reading from word for word and no one would've known.
'A new poll shows her approval rating at 22%, her disapproval rating at 48%, so if you want to make a claim about "normal" Americans, you might want to rethink that.' - ProudObamacan
This is why she will never be President. You can win if your approvals equal your disapprovals. You can even win if they are slightly off in the bad direction, depending on the distribution spread across states. But you can't win if your disapprovals are TWICE as large as your approvals. The public has already made up its mind about her--she's not going to change anyone's mind from here on out. She's not even a "kingmaker" anymore--you can ask Joe Miller about that. Her enemies inside the GOP are powerful and deep. The only ability she has left is to destroy her own political party if she chooses---by running in 2012. Personally, I think its a great idea. If she wants to run, let her run. She will lose.
Seriously, how much longer are even the least intelligent of Americans going to buy Sarah Palin's "I know you are but what am I" brand of politics?
There are a lot of people in the political arena who get taken out of context, misquoted and such. She's not one of them. You don't have to take her out of context or misquote her to hear the loudest bunch of derp this side of Glenn Beck.
derp?
Has several meanings, but used in a situation where someone has done/said something retarded, and so "derp" is a socially acceptable to say post-retardedness.
Witness this transcription of a Glenn Beck/ Sarah Palin interview:
buy derp mugs, tshirts and magnets
Herp da derp derpa derp. A derpity
derpity herpa derp derp. Derp derp
derp. A herp derp herpity derpity derp.
Derp 1: Herp derp?
Derp 2: Derp.
Derp 1: Derpa herp derp derp?
Derp 2: Derp...
It wasn't just a one-word slip. Her final corrected statement was that we need to stand by our North AND South Korean allies. That's Miss Teen South Carolina derp territory.
And *that* was followed by her agreeing that the contrails off of California were caused by a two-stage Chinese missile launch.
Sarah Palin is a bet that some select high powered people made to see how badly America is broken. Everybody lost.
Speaking as a really liberal guy, I say, "Run, Sarah, Run!" It's a damn shame the Republican establishment will do everything they can to keep her from being the nominee. It would be the funniest Presidential campaign ever. Just imagine.. who would she choose as a running mate? She'd want to find someone who didn't make her look like a total mouth-breathing moron in comparison. Alan Keyes? Christine O'Donnell? (Biatch/Witch 2012?) Maybe that Quran-burning preacher in Florida? Fun. Fun. Fun.
Teaparty Palin:
Celibacy is the answer to everything complicated. Celibacy and guns.
Doc, if I didn't know you were making fun of Palin in your blog, it would be totally believable and in character for her to walk out after the 2nd chapter of an audio book recording.
And regarding the Washington Post link - this is also totally believable and in character for her to blame someone else for her screwups.
I don't believe this North/South Korea is a simple mistake on her part. South Korea and North Korea are pretty fucking different. It's like mixing up Washington DC and Washington state.
"How do you feel about the politicians in Washington?"
"Well, Seattle is very nice..."
With Sarah Palin, it'd be just as likely to think that what she knows about Korea, she got from old MASH re-runs.
She thinks MASH was set in Vietnam. But she'd probably screw that up and say it was Japan. Everyone would laugh at her, then she'd run back to facebook and twitter whining about how she was talking about that one episode Frank Burns assaulted a general's wife he mistook for Margret Houlihan in Okinawa. Although, there's a 50-50 chance she'd confuse Okinawa with Vietnam.
Palin once referred to New Hampshire as being in the Northwest of the United States.
It's 3 AM, who do you want picking up the phone?
Brring, brring
PALIN: Track, I told ya you can't be a Joint Chief, stop callin'!
CHIEF OF STAFF: Madam President, there is a situation in, uh, a Korea, I think.
PALIN: Why did you wake me up for this?
CHIEF OF STAFF: All I know is there's some pretty dramatic stuff on CNN!
PALIN: Get me the Secretary of State!
SEC. STATE: Madam President, North Korea has fired missiles at South Korea. We think it might be a reaction to joint US-Korean naval training exercises in the area, or possibly a high profile South Korean conference..
PALIN: Why would North Korea attack another country right after we helped them out by doing training exercises with them?
SEC. STATE: Sorry Madam President, I misspoke. Our Korean naval training exercises were with South Korea.
PALIN: Why didn't you say so to begin with?
SEC. STATE: ...
PALIN: OK, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go over there, to North Korea, and tell them that we will sanction their pants off if they don't knock it off, even if it means fewer Samsung TVs in the Best Buys of America! On the way over I want to draft a Facebook message about how I'm disappointed in our North Korean allies. See if I can meet the President of Japan on the way back and go shopping in Tokyo with Bristol and Willow.
SEC. STATE: I... OK. [muffled sobs]
LOL
but scary
Go doc! LOL That's some funny shit right there (said in Larry the Cable Guy's voice)
Doc as usual got it right! LOL
This is another way it might go:
"Madam President, the North Koreans have begun shelling a town in South Korea."
Palin: "Oh Good, it's about time. Order our Our Brave Men and Women to also fire on the South Koreans, and to support the North Korean armed forces in any way they can. Let's shoot some Gooks!"
"Umm, Madam Pres-"
Palin: "You heard me mister. Order Our Brave Men In The Armed Forces to begin firing on any South Korean bad guys. You betcha!"
You guys crack me up. I am SO happy she quit governing my state. I can't tell you how much I have always hated her. Continue with the Palin bashing, please!
If this shortbus seatwarmer Palin gets the republican nomination she will go from comedy gold to comedy platinum!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing her in some presidential debates in 2012.
Every president since Truman has been stymied by the North Korea problem. Sarah Palin to the rescue!
Once again, this twat proves that everything she says and does is WRONG.
Stand with our North Korean Allies?
Let me run that through the whargarblifier:
OUTRAGE! Sarah Palin is a COMMIE! She loves NORTH Korea! ANTICHRIST666eleventy1111
No, no, no...that's the kind reasonable response that comes from Palin SUPPORTERS (aka Real Americans) when speaking of Kenyan-born atheist muslin Faschisit Soschilists
Anti-Palin lunatics do things like expect an answer to brutal, unfair gotcha questions like "what do you read?"
You posted your blog Dec 1 and I only just now checked on it because there weren't any new blogs for a long time, doc. This one was well worth waiting for. Kudos.
Sarah Palin: A clown short of a circus
And now for the latest news:
'Sarah Palin's Alaska' TV show fuels speculation that Palin doesn't know "one end of a rifle from another."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hunter-becomes-the-hunted-as-palin-critics-say-she-cant-shoot-2153973.html
here's a youtube video of the show. it's hilarious. some experienced hunter. It's like watching a tourist shoot a rifle for the first time. Everyone's telling her what to do and she still can't hit the broadsided of a barn. lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW0Xx4DXkYk&feature=player_embedded
It was a bolt action rifle. How fucking stupid can you be to not know how to operate it?
One online commentor, on Sean Hannity's website no less, grumbled, "I turned on Sarah Palin's Alaska a minute ago and she just shot four maybe even five times at a caribou and missed. Needless to say I'm not impressed with her ability to handle a firearm let alone aim it and hit something."
Run Mr Caribou! She's shooting at you!!! A lot! The deer stays put and looks all WTF, should I be worried? ROFL!!!
Shouldn't the reindeer have been allowed at least a tree or bush to hide behind to make it fair?
I picture a van just over the ridge that reindeer was shooed out of.
If she is the accomplished hunter she professes to be, she wouldn't need someone to tell her "wait right there, we need to make sure it's dead."
The editing is suspect. I'm assuming it was a one camera shoot, but we never actually saw her shoot the animal. We saw a tight shot on the trigger during the fatal shot, then what I'm assuming is a "create in the edit booth" shot through the scope effect. All I'm saying is, she may or may not have been the one to fire the fatal shot. There's absolutely no way of knowing based on the edited piece.
A good strategy for the deer would be to hassle her with questions about ethics violations until she quits.
Asking her what she reads has been known to stun her.
LOL
Someone has got to get the Palins out of the media! They're trapped in the media! Trapped, I tell you!
Wow, lots of crap wrong here from a hunter's standpoint. 1. No orange at all? 2. Who's carrying the caribou back to the camp? 3. Dad says wait until it turns broadside, but she shoots it head on anyways, ruining the meat.
My favorite part is they're still whispering after she shot 4 times.
Oh and I'm not sure where the 120 yards came from, but if that's true then the scope must have been really off. You could have shot the deer with iron sights just fine from that distance.
This whole thing really does frustrate me, partially because I'm a hunter, but mostly because of the ways in which it reveals the true extent of her charade.
Q: "Who cares if she is an expert hunter or not?" A: 1) The people hunting with or near her. 2) Wabbits.
Q: "who's carrying the caribou back to the camp?"
A: Production Assistant.
it's pretty obvious she isn't even the "outdoorsman" that she claimed to be. She never has her own gear, and always has to be told how to do stuff. She was 100% a product marketed to the US public, and I'm tired of hearing about her (unless it's on one of doc's funny blogs).
I'm equally sick of hearing about her Goddamned family.
So much FAIL:
* Lack of trigger discipline.
* Shooting with no backdrop, those bullets probably hit Russia.
* Work your own bolt.
* "Does it kick?" hunting with a gun you are not familiar with.
* Shooting on the run not broadside.
* Trying to connect with the working man and the American populous and failing.
She also had 4 missed shots. I didn't watch the video but any one of those could have easily wounded the animal and let it suffer to die. Very irresponsible to take a shot that you aren't confident is a kill shot. x4
I wonder if that animal had an abnormally low IQ.
Hey - she's the former governor of the state of Alaska!
Oh you were just waiting for that one adlib.
thanks, now my keyboard has coffee all over it..
It was sad that her father kept calling her "Sarah Palin" in the commentating blurbs... And then after the trip he said how great it was to get to know her again. Then she visited a cousin she hasn't seen in 10 years. Wow, family is obviously not high on her priority list...
Only insofar as she can use them for publicity
What a surprise, another discrepancy between her "political values" and her real life values.
Why can't she operate the bolt herself? I was rooting for that caribou the whole time.
Canned hunt, heavily edited, completely fabricated. Just what I'd expect.
You usually don't get two shots at a Caribou that close, let alone 4 or 5 out of 2 rifles.
Just the size of the animal smacks of a farm raised canned kill. No hunter would stalk and take such a small animal seeing as ones 2x that size are readily found.
It did seem odd that the thing didn't completely run away after the first shot.
Or after the second shot. Or after the third shot. Or after the fourth shot....
Must be nice hunting animals that let you shoot at them 5 times.
Would you rather she shoot the smart ones?
Personally, I'd rather she shot at the ones that charge you when you miss. Now THAT would be must-see tv.
A 700lb Russian wild boar! I wonder if she can see them from her backyard.
I'd rather she shoot not farm-raised, bottle fed, non-tranquilized animals if she's going to hunt.
This was like shooting at fish in a barrel, if the fish was stunned, you don't know how to shoot, and you were partially retarded.
I'll stop making fun of Sarah Palin when Sarah Palin stops giving me stuff to make fun of her for.
Palin is the worst thing to happen to conservatism in America since Ted Faggerty got caught doing rails of crank off the waxed ass of a male prostitute.
After watching this, I don't believe we should trust Sarah Palin with a Red Rider, much less a country. That terrible pantomime of "hunting" she attempted to pass off has convinced me that she really is your average politician. I've hunted for most of my life, and watching that woman hold a rifle would've scared the wits out of me had I been there. She had no care around the trigger of her weapon, something even a novice huntsman should learn first thing. She obviously has an itchy trigger finger, and that could easily be trouble anywhere, not just on a hunt. She was not at all comfortable with the rifle, even asking at one point if the gun "kicked hard". A hunter should ALWAYS know his/her weapon, and be used to it's specific weight/power.
Palin failed to even carry her own gun or ammo, obviously showing her less than serious demeanor concerning hunting. The woman missed the caribou at least four times, firing off into a relatively flat landscape, another thing even a novice hunter knows NOT to do.
In all honesty, I would trust my nine year old nephew with a rifle before I trusted Sarah Palin. She has no business hunting, or even owning a firearm with that kind of disregard for basic safety and strategy. If we can't trust her with a gun, how can we trust her in a political situation? There are more choices out there, and after this I've had my fill of Ms. Sarah Palin. Leave the hunting AND the politics to those men and women who truly have the mind and passion for it.
She'll Shoot Our (Collective American) Eye Out!
The problem with Sarah Palin is that she assumes her legions of devoted fans are as ignorant as she is. For the most part, she's right. But it's one thing to spread meaningless diatribes calculated to incite emotions and hatred. It's another to demonstrate a skill you claim to possess.
does anyone really believe she took the kill shot herself?!? I think someone else took the shot for her and it was staged to look like she did it when she obviously couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
Wasn't there a video of her struggling with a pump action shotgun too?
I bet there's a video of this dummy having trouble with a crayon if you look hard enough for it...
That caribou was stuffed and on a rail. Had to have been to sit there and wait for half a dozen shitty shots. She should try one of her speeches next time, it'd probably throw itself off a cliff.
The grand Palin total to bag a caribou and get it back to the Palin homestead added up to $42,400, or $141.33 per lb. of caribou meat.
Just to put this is perspective, the Palins could have filled their freezer with ribeye steak at $10.99 a lb. from Alaska’s Mr. Prime Beef, which is based in Anchorage and ships anywhere in the state.
She's a fake everything else, why not a fake hunter too?
she approached the dead animal with a different gun.
staged.
I feel like this caribou may be tied down to the ground or on a leash for purposes of the show.
It's really painful watching her try to shoot an animal that is probably smarter than she is
"Let's go west young man," she says to her father, one foot raised high to walk purposefully towards her goal. "Uh, west is that way," her father says, turning her to face the opposite direction. "Well, then let's go EAST," she says triumphantly. Day two turns out to be more fruitful, as the hunting posse discovers a couple of caribou up yonder ridge. Everyone falls to the ground, including presumably the camera man, producer and sound guy from TLC. Sarah lines up her rifle and shoots. And shoots. And shoots again. And again. The caribou couldn't have been more unfazed by the goings on if he was flipping through a Vogue and filing his hooves -- perhaps sensing that Sarah might talk guns more than she actually uses them.
It Is Too Bad Cheney Wasn't There
He'd be the ideal hunting companion for Palin.
Is it normal practice to take along hair stylists, makeup artists, wardrobe managers and press photographers when hunting?
